Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • As a young lawyer in the late '60s, I appeared quite often before Judge Bob to argue cases. He had a special style, and it worked. At some time in his life, he must have been an actor. When an accused appeared before him, he sized the accused up, and when appropriate, he let loose with a level of feigned vehement rage, always with the message that you had better straighten up your life. Usually the accused was left quaking in his boots. It was all an act, of course, but very effective. He hated bad behaviour, particularly when an accused exhibited arrogance or disrespect to the court. He was very bright and, above all, fair to a fault. I learned a lot from him. He had all the traits of a fine judge. I was sad when I noted his passing, and attended his funeral before heading south to warmer climes. My heartfelt sympathies to the family. • As a teenager it was my job to drive Bob home the many times. He and Dad got together. Oh the stories he would tell me, I still remember almost fifty years later. - Posted by: bob guyot (One of my fathers best friends (Gilles Guyot)) on: Feb 27, 2013

  • Old friend. We were the richer to have had you, and the poorer to have lost you. It is unfortunately rare to know someone who is blessed with the gift of truly being able to sort the truth from the chaff... thank you so much for being a part of my life and sharing your values with me. Hope they have bitters in heaven. You made the "Circuit" a thing that will be a part of the history of Manitoba. - Posted by: Blair Forster (Friend/Admirer) on: Feb 21, 2013

  • I first met Robert when stage managing in theatre. There was never a dull moment when around Robert. Always in a good mood, kind, considerate, gentle and with precious sense of humour that was capable of relieving the pressure in the most difficult situations. A gifted actor, Robert was as impressive off the set as he was on stage. It was a joy to observe him in the wardrobe and make-up area, backstage at the theatre or on the television or film set. He loved people and enjoyed entertaining them. There was always a story or a joke to be told and it was a regular occurrence to find several people huddled around him to listen. If Robert was there, it was a happy work environment. Despite his easy going nature, he took his acting seriously and was a natural on stage. He was a superb performer but more importantly, an outstanding person. I will always have a profound respect for him. - Posted by: Denis Lavoie (friend ) on: Feb 21, 2013

  • I will always treasure my memories of Uncle Bob, particularly going with grandma Rita Trudel to visit the courthouse and to see him presiding over the court. She was so proud of him! I was too, of course. Condolences to everyone. - Posted by: David Trudel (Nephew) on: Feb 19, 2013
