THERESA PHOEBE ELLEN MARTINIUK (TERRY)
Date of Passing: Feb 18, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHERESA PHOEBE ELLEN MARTINIUK (nee TERRY) Peacefully on February 18, 2013, mom passed away in her 92nd year. She was predeceased by her husband John; parents Samuel and Phoebe Terry; brothers Ross and Harve; sister Marge; grandson Christopher; brothers-in-law Bill, Andrew and Myron Martiniuk; Charles Airey and John Timo; sister-in-law Bernice Timo, and friends too numerous to mention. She is survived by her children David and Terry-Jane; sister Ruth Sutherland (Ted); sisters-in-law Doris Martiniuk and Kathy Martiniuk (who was so good to mom); numerous nieces and nephews and their children all whom she loved dearly; special neighbour Betty Skrypnyk; also many friends far and wide. Mom was born in Milford Bay in Ontario's Muskoka region. She proudly served in the R.C.A.F. (women's command) during the Second World War. After the war she and dad (also a R.C.A.F. veteran) married. They lived and worked in Milford Bay, Toronto, Trail, BC and Sudbury, ON before settling in East Lower Fort Garry. There they built a home and raised their family. Mom was active in the community, serving on the Kitchener School Board during the period of school amalgamation in the 1960s. She was an active member of the Anglican Christ Church Women's Auxiliary, a founding member of the Gordon Howard Senior Centre, and sat for a time on the board of Happy Thought Villa Senior residence in East Selkirk. Mom loved her family, her home, her garden and living on the Red River. She and dad often spent time boating on the river. Mom knew boats, loved the water and was a great camper. We often went camping to Otter Falls when we kids were little. When dad retired they went on many adventures with the camper on the back of dad's half ton. Mom had a positive, look to the future attitude which served her well in good times and bad, especially after dad's passing and later Chris'. Luckily mom was healthy and active till the end, still going to aquasize and just returning from a trip with her friend Ursula, to Cuba! In accordance with mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and no funeral will be held. Come spring mom will be interred beside Dad in St. Mark's Cemetery, Milford Bay. If you wish donations can be made in Mom's name to the Lighthouse Mission, Winnipeg. "So long Pal" Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
