DOUGLAS STONE
Born: Aug 21, 1951
Date of Passing: Feb 17, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOUGLAS STONE Suddenly, on Sunday, February 17, 2013, Doug left us with broken hearts. Born August 21, 1951, Doug spent his youth in Winnipeg with his mother Nellie and sister Brenda (Wilfred) until he met the love of his life, Noreen. They married in 1975, and moved to Teulon before settling in Gunton. They were blessed with three daughters, Amanda (Jason, grandchildren Alyanna and Callan), Melissa and Victoria. A more devoted husband, friend, father and grandfather would be hard to find. If any of his family were involved in an activity so was he. This led to many years both as cameraman and coordinator of the kitchen for the Ukrainian Dance Festival in Teulon. Driving and supervising teams in a variety of sports occupied many hours. His work fixing TVs and electronics never prevented him from spending time with family and friends. Doug was generous to a fault as many can attest. He was a long time member of the Teulon Lions Club, helped start the food bank, was a coordinator and MC of Remembrance Day services, worked on the cenotaph and was Vice President of Project New Hope. Doug was always willing to help others and wasn't afraid of any challenge; whether it be playing Santa at Day Care, acting as music man at socials or supervising a bunch of grade 12s on a cruise. He will be remembered for having an offbeat sense of humour and the tact of a diplomat. His daughters characterized him as an all-around Amazing Man. A celebration of Doug's life will be held on at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, in Gunton Hall. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your organization of choice.

Doug helped me out with tuition for my last year at University of Manitoba. After graduation and securing a job, I paid back the amount of tuition I had borrowed. I only wish I had known this sooner. - Posted by: Fawad (Tenant) on: Jul 29, 2018

Well it would be impossible for me to say anything that would even come close to accurately describing how much my dad meant to me. So I just simply want to say, I love you and miss you dad and I will try to be strong for mom. You raised us to be strong independent women and I will carry on in life simply by having the faith that I will see you again one day.... - Posted by: Melissa A Stone (daughter) on: Mar 05, 2013

Dear Noreen and Family, Brenda and Willie and Family. We were so sorry to hear of Doug's passing and will always treasure the special relationship between our families. I still remember Doug bringing Noreen to the farm for the first time, and then bringing the girls to visit as your family grew. It meant a lot to Mom and Dad that you kept in touch and came for visits with them. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. - Posted by: Arlene and Don Kuntz (Cousin) on: Feb 27, 2013

Doug's booming baritone, facile friendliness and easy articulation made him an excellent public speaker, though many will recall, in his modest and self-effacing way, he often found it hard to do. Nonetheless, through his increasing leadership roles in his community, he was called upon more and more to speak and each time conquered and controlled his fears. A man of vision, his generosity was more than just service at home. I was struck, for example, by his commitment to Project New Hope bringing just that to returning soldiers and their families. Yes, we will all be poorer for his loss, but enriched by those he touched. - Posted by: Jim Millar Balmoral, Mb (Friend, neighbour, fellow Lion, (we were both presidents of our respective clubs at the same time)) on: Feb 25, 2013

My heart goes out to you and the kids Noreen. I'm glad I ran into you in the store as I'm not able to attend Doug's Remembrance. Not a year will go by on Remembrance Day that I won't shed a tear for you, Doug and family. - Posted by: Andrea Hancox & Kids () on: Feb 25, 2013

Our hearts go out to you all at this time. Life is not fair - it tests our strengths continually. Time will take away the pain and leave only the memories. - Posted by: Enstrom Family (Friends) on: Feb 25, 2013

So many emotions and feelings went through my mind and heart when I heard the shocking news about Uncle Doug. It's so hard to believe that someone with that much presence can be gone from this earthly plain. He will leave a hole in so many lives and I'm so sorry about that. Our family has been through so much loss lately and this only makes it more difficult. I will be forever grateful that he agreed to speak on our behalf(none of us could keep it together) at Alan's funeral. He always had a great way with words and could publicly speak to anyone, anywhere. I also have great memories of Uncle Doug videotaping our wedding. It was made extra special by the commentary throughout the footage. Always an offbeat comment to make us laugh. I'll always treasure the way he genuinely cared about our lives and interests, including each one of the kids. And, how he played snow baseball with my children after they dealt with the burial of their Uncle. The day we celebrated my Mom's 65th birthday and he partook in a fun pullup contest. There are too many special memories of a special man to list here, but I hope some of our memories can help to put a smile in some of the sad days to come. With all of love, to you Aunty Noreen, Amanda and Jay (& children), Melissa and Victoria. - Posted by: Tim & Andrea Sobering & family (Family) on: Feb 24, 2013

Was shocked, as were all, with the sad news of Doug's untimely death. My condolences to you Noreen, and your family. It was always a pleasure to run into Doug and share in, as you mention, his off beat sense of humour. He certainly was a great community worker and gave so freely of his time to all. I am sorry that I cannot make it to the celebration of his life, but have a previous commitment. My thoughts and prayers are with you. - Posted by: Shirley Jahns Mulvey () on: Feb 23, 2013
