  • We will always have fond memories of "Smokie" as head coach of the then upstart Winnipeg Sr. Mustang's Football club. He was the perfect guy with the right demeanor to manage a group that was very free spirited to say the least. Under Ricks guidance the Sr. Stangs went undefeated for their first three years against formidable opponents on both sides of the border. We were fortunate enough to re connect with Smokie years later as members at the Winnipeg Squash and Racquet Club. Our sincere condolences to family anf friends. - Posted by: Derrick Sigmar and Andre Lambert (Ricks exlineman) on: Feb 26, 2013

  • It is with immense sadness and regret that I've learned that "Mr. Rick" is no longer with us. He was such a great man, full of stories about his children, his younger life, and how he met his wife. I am so sorry for the loss that you (Mr. Rick's family and friends) have suffered, and please know that you are in my many prayers. I will miss Mr. Rick, his weird sense of humor, his face that said he was annoyed with me (even though he never was), and his genuine kind hearted spirit. Mr. Rick was one of my favorite people and I will miss him terribly. Again, I am so very sorry to everyone who is feeling this loss. - Posted by: Nameless (Ex co-worker) on: Feb 25, 2013

  • I was saddened to receive the news of Rick's passing on Sunday morning. This is a tragic loss for his family and friends. His football family will miss him deeply. He worked tirelessly for amateur football and we on the Canadian Junior Football League have lost a friend, a mentor and a hero. He gave unquestioningly of his time and talent and he will be missed. On a personal note, I was honoured when Rick stayed on as Treasurer during my time as Commissioner. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Carol and family. - Posted by: Ronald White (Football friend and colleague. ) on: Feb 25, 2013
