FAYE GARDNER With heavy hearts, we wish to announce the passing of Faye Gardner on February 24, 2013. Faye is survived by her son Daryl, her daughter Rhonda, her brother Morris Klein and her constant companion Flyer. Her sisters-in-law, Kalla Daien, Esther Gardner and Ann Gardner and many nieces and nephews also survive her. Faye was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Hy, her parents Max and Ethel Klein, and her brother William Klein. Faye grew up on a Jewish farming colony in Gross Isle, Manitoba, and moved to Winnipeg when she was 18. In 1954, she married Hy, and together they opened General Auto Parts. In the early 1990s Faye worked at Nelson River Construction. Faye was a proud member and President of Winnipeg Women's ORT, a charity dedicated to building and funding technical schools throughout the world. Although small in stature, Faye had a huge and generous heart and a 100-watt smile for everyone. She took great pride in loving and caring for her husband, children, pets and lifelong friends. Faye was always the straight man to her husband's antics and sense of humour, the two of them enjoyed many years together traveling, gardening, camping and maintaining their home. In the summer, everyone marvelled at her beautiful gardens, especially the roses and begonias, her two favourites, and each summer the gardens seemed to get larger and larger. As an extraordinary cook and baker, there was always a little something in the freezers, and guests were treated to a smorgasbord of baked delicacies. The family would like to thank the following for the tremendous care she received: Dr. Claire Jaeger, W.F.P.S., the nurses and physicians at Emergency at Health Sciences Centre, and the extraordinary team of nurses and aides on Unit 6, 3rd floor of Seven Oaks Hospital. Not only was Faye cared for, but there was great comfort and support for her family and friends her during her illness. Funeral services were held February 26. In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to either Meals on Wheels of Winnipeg or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Donations can be made through CanadaHelps.org
