FREDERICK (RICK) SMOKE March 18, 1952 - February 24, 2013 It is with great sadness we announce the sudden and peaceful passing of husband, father, uncle and friend Rick on Sunday, February 24, 2013. Rick was predeceased by his parents Pauline and Michael Smoke, in-laws, Rhoda and Gilbert Pascoe. He is survived by wife Carole, sons Patrick and Scott, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jerry and Sharon Paskowitz, nieces Marci (Adam Possner) and Erin (Chayim Kirshen), nephew Robert Paskowitz, cousins Janice Safneck, John and Maureen Shanski, and countless friends. Rick graduated in 1974 with a bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Manitoba, articled in a CA firm obtaining his RIA. Rick worked for Sprague Distributors for 13 years and was presently employed at Shelmerdine Garden Centre for almost 21 years. Rick volunteered throughout his life with Junior Football, coaching with the Winnipeg Hawkeyes, Winnipeg Rods, St. Vital Senior Mustangs and St. Vital Junior Mustangs. He was also a member of the Mustangs board. At one time he was also president of the Manitoba Junior Football League. Rick was a major contributor in advancing players from Junior Football to the collegiate ranks and into the CFL. He was currently on the executive of the Canadian Junior Football League for over 25 years. Rick lived a joyful life by his wife's side where he enjoyed spending time with his sons, dogs, and his many friends. Rick spent many years coaching both his sons during their youth soccer careers. He was a loyal friend who carried an optimistic attitude towards all tasks and was always present for times of need. Rick will be remembered for his unique and infectious laugh. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rick's memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or charity of your choice. Celebration of Rick's life will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Ave. Rick's favourite colour was orange - please feel free to wear it in his memory. Pallbearers are Patrick and Scott Smoke, Bob Sokalski, Randy Gadawski, Jerry Paskowitz, and Walter Wilms.   • Dear Carole and family: As a co-worker of Rick's for many years I always saw him as the consumate professional. Many years ago Irvin and I sat beside him and the boys at a Goldeye's ballgame. We saw the family side of Rick, which was really nice instead of only seeing him at the office. It has been a pleasure to have known Rick. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.   • We are so very sorry for the loss of a dear friend, husband, father and doggie dad!! Gord shared a room with Rick for many..many years of travel to CJFL meetings and games and there were always good stories to share on their return. I watched several seasons of the Winnipeg Rifles home games in the north west press box in the old stadium with Rick, exchanging stories and enjoying some Boston Pizza!! For me, those are treasured memories!!Rick you will certainly be missed, but not forgotten!!
