Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDAVID ALAN THOMAS GUSTAFSON Peacefully in the early morning hours of Thursday, February 28, 2013, David passed away in his sleep at his home at Golden West Centennial Lodge. Dave had suffered from frontotemporal degeneration for the past five years, but met every day with a smile on his face throughout his illness. Dave is survived by his wife and loving soul mate Susan and his daughter Danielle. He will be deeply missed by his parents Barbara and Tom Gustafson, his sister Janis Baptist (Darryl) his brother Peter Gustafson (Carol) and his sister Lynn Findlay (Dave). Dave had a special place in the heart of his mother-in-law Kay Jack. He will be missed by his brother-in-law Norman Jack (Janice) and his nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews. Dave was predeceased by his grandparents Ned and Emily Greaves, Peter and Mary Gustafson and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Dave worked in the manufacturing industry most of his life until his illness began in 2007. He had a life long interest in learning and was always taking one class or another over the years. Dave's greatest interest was sports. Earlier in his life he enjoyed playing football and rugby, later coaching and referring. The past few years he still loved to watch sports on television. The family would look to thank the homecare workers we had over the years when Dave was still at home and the wonderful caring staff of Golden West Centennial Lodge, especially the staff of the second floor. A very special thank you to Dave's companion Brenda, who was always there for him. Dave's Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations to Golden West Centennial Lodge, 811 School Road, Winnipeg, MB, R2Y 0S8, or the Alzheimer's Society of MB, 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2 would be deeply appreciated. I would like to express our deepest condolences and prayers to all Dave's closest family and friends. Deepest prayers to Susan, Danielle, Uncle Tom, Aunti Barb, cousins Peter, Lynn, and Janice and all their families. I will always remember the great times we had when the family was still living in Thunder Bay, and I believe on Hodge Street, hangin with my cousins. David was always smiling, laughing and happy. His laughter will ring in my memory forever. I will miss my cousin dearly. God hold him close to you, he will brighten your day. Eric - Posted by: Eric Gustafson and family (Cousin) on: Mar 15, 2013

Was saddened to learn of David's illness and passing. I know he is at peace now. My memories of David are as a friend and mentor. David in many ways was like an older brother to me in my younger days. My most vivid memories of David was during the summer of 1969 when he mentored me and my pal Allan Maki (presently a sports writer for the Globe and Mail) on preparing for High School Football and playing for the Vikings. He was an excellent teacher coaching us on what to expect, terminology, characters to watch for, coaches expectations etc. A veteran - he was passing on his skills and knowledge to a couple of rookies. What fun we had....... A good friend - he will be remembered. - Posted by: Terry Scott (Friend) on: Mar 14, 2013

I am so sorry to hear of Dave's passing. Dave was a good man. My fondest memories of Dave was when he was coaching ringette. He had quite the competitive spirit. My condolences to my niece, Danielle (love you hon), to David's parents, Tom & Barb (two of the greatest people I have ever met), and to Susan. Susan, I have never met you, but I'm sure you're a great person. God bless you in your time of sorrow, and for having bearing the burden of caretaker. I'm sure Dave would have thanked you, if he could. - Posted by: Bev Albert (Sister of ex-wife) on: Mar 11, 2013

My favorite memory of you David is your most addictive smile and your laughter. You could always make all of us feel glad that we were together. Sure we lived in two different provinces, but there was always communication. God was definitely with you when you met and married your most loving wife, Susan. What a wonderful and precious lady. You were also so very blessed with such a lovely daughter, where part of you lives on in her. You have ALWAYS been such a special cousin and friend. Oh, the wonderful times we had at Quetico Park. The long hikes down the nature trails, the endless time we spent in the water swimming and all along we were guarded by our dog 'Sam'. Now that you are in heaven, you can put together the annual In-Law vs Out-Law games. As the years go by the teams will be larger and will be so much more fun. - Posted by: Jo-Anne (Adduono) Chikoski (Cousin) on: Mar 03, 2013

Sitting back and reflecting on Dave's passing it seems just like yesterday that we were kids walking to the hockey rink from his family home or sharing family memories while camping at Quetico Park . It is in times like this that losing a loved one we actually realize how fast time passes us by. Dave and his family moved away when we were younger and our paths never crossed as much as they should have but when we got to visit it was always a happy time. I will miss but never forget Dave's infectious laugh or Dave's happy and loving personality but will embrace and hold those memories close to my heart forever. I know when Dave's time came he passed with a smile on his face because he had the most important thing with him right to the end . FAMILY I will miss you Dave but never forget you Your cousin Len Jr. - Posted by: Len Adduono (Cousin) on: Mar 03, 2013
