WILLIAM (BILL) YUNYK
Born: Nov 27, 1926
Date of Passing: Feb 22, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM (BILL) YUNYK Peacefully on February 22, 2013, our beloved husband, father and grandfather Bill, passed away at the Golden Door Geriatric Centre at the age of 86. Dad was born on November 27, 1926 to John and Anna Yunyk in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Left to mourn him is his wife of over 64 years Mary, sons Jim (Connie) and Richard (Pat), grand-children Johnathan, Larissa, Cristine (Alex) and David, sister Kay Pitsch and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Mary and brother Alex. Dad was employed by the Canadian National Railroad (CNR) for 42 years as a carman, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Carman's Lodge 371 and was actively involved in the union for many years. Bill was an excellent carpenter and spent countless hours in his workshop making projects for the home and family. In his younger years, Dad developed a love for recreational gambling. He took his expertise to the racetrack in the summer and was typically the croupier at the craps table at many stags. Every payday, Dad tested his luck at poker, many times hosting poker games on his homemade poker table. In 1970, Mom and Dad went to Las Vegas for the first time and returned twice a year for many, many years. Together, they spent summers travelling North America in their camper trailer and enjoyed many vacations and bus tours abroad. After retiring in 1985 alongside his wife Mary, Dad enjoyed gardening, wine making and spending time with his grandchildren, imparting wisdom and life lessons. And of course he enjoyed his cigars, but he always assured us he didn't inhale! Dad truly was a humble, modest man that taught the virtues of honesty and integrity. Dad was very fortunate to be able to spend his last years at home under the excellent care of his loving and devoted wife Mary. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all the staff at Golden Door for their wonderful care and compassion for Dad during his short stay. Cremation has taken place in accordance with Dad's wishes. A private family service and interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or to a charity of their choice.
