DREW WARREN DUFF September 24, 1953 - March 1, 2013 It is with our sad hearts we announce the sudden passing of husband and father Drew Duff. Surrounded by his family, Drew passed away at the Victoria Hospital in the early morning of March 1, 2013 at the age of 59. He will be missed but lovingly remembered by his wife Barbara and daughter Melissa, along with his brothers Jim (Cec), Bill, and his sister Janet; nieces Alana and Caitlin; and nephews Justin, Brayden and Darnell. Drew will also be missed by his father-in-law Lars Wass and Barbara's family: Bonnie and Brian Parkes (Chris and Heather), Melanie and Mark Tooley (AJ and Meghan), David Wass and Cheryl Cusack; and special friend Larry Bryant. Drew was predeceased by his parents Margaret and Bill Duff. Drew served with the Winnipeg Fire Department for 29 years and retired as Captain. From the early 1980s to present time Drew enjoyed business ventures along with his brother Bill and wife Barbara. For the last seven and one half years the Howland Hotel located in Beausejour, Manitoba is their most recent success. Drew enjoyed buying and selling cars, scuba diving, fishing, golfing, traveling to Jamaica and Las Vegas. He loved spending time with his friends and neighbours - the "Happy Hour" gang will miss him. Drew was most proud of his daughter Melissa - the love of his life along with his loving wife Barbara, of 26 years. A memorial service to celebrate Drew's life will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 3:00 p.m., at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Drew's name to The Arthritis Society. "Rest in Peace (Daddio)... We will love you forever." CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044

Condolences & Memories (40 entries)

  • I only became aware of Drew's passing this morning. I am not surprised to see all the messages here. As all know, who have visited this page, Drew was a great guy who always made you feel special. I met Drew in his Hi-Fi days at Western Sound. A man's man, he was easy to like and took great interest in whatever you had to say. Our paths crossed a few times over the years and it was always great to see him and get caught up on what was happening in our lives. To Barb and family, please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. - Posted by: Ken (Ted) Pachkowsky (Old Friend) on: May 18, 2013

  • Our thoughts are with Drew's family! The "Duff" family made Oakville a better place for having them here. I remember Drew hustling from table to table chatting with the customers and making everyone feel at home. Nice fella! Sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Sandy and Jim Boyachek ((friends of the Oakville Hotel era)) on: Apr 10, 2013

  • My wife and I were aways travelling in South America when we received an email letting us know that our Aunt Marg had passed. She had a full life and was surrounded by her loving family which is what I think we all hope for, and I thought God truly blessed her life. In the same email, my brother said that Drew had taken ill after a holiday and passed shortly thereafter. I was at a loss for words and find it hard even now to adequately express my sympathy to his wife and daughter, as words are never enough and will never replace the empty feeling in their hearts. I know time will never "heal" the wound but it will dampen the pain. I offer these late condolences to all of Drew's family, my cousins and their families and Drew's friends on the loss of someone who was " A good man and friend" to many. - Posted by: Peter Dunderdale (Cousin) on: Mar 31, 2013

  • Drew was a good man. Drew did everything good for us. He did a lot for me. He did more than anyone in the world. Drew liked everything, fishing, Vegas. He took me to Reno one time. One thing about Drew, he was one good man and we will never forget him. He will always be with us. Bill, Jim and Janet, I know you have a hard time now. Me too, I'm having a hard time. I'm still thinking about that. I wonder why Drew went to Jamaica for and got sick. He should have stayed home, but he liked to go to Jamaica every winter so we can't help that. - Posted by: David Weremy (Uncle) on: Mar 29, 2013

  • My condolences to you Jim, Janet, Bill and family for your loss from a childhood friend. Stewart Ferguson.(West Kildonan) - Posted by: Stewart Ferguson (Childhood friend) on: Mar 20, 2013

  • Drew always made a point of coming to see me or having me over to his home when I came to visit Aunt Margaret at various times over the years. He was the only person to ever get me to drink a martini. I'm not sure if drinking martinis was a stage Drew went through or something he always did but he sure was fond of them early 90's. Even when I saw Drew crippled with arthritis he viewed it as a minor set back that would be resolved any day soon. He was such an optimistic person. My heart goes out especially to you Barbara and to you Melissa, also to Janet, Bill and Jim, for it is the ones left behind that have the greatest challenges to face. Regards, Elizabeth - Posted by: Mary Elizabeth Duff (cousin) on: Mar 17, 2013

  • I still remember all those challenging ping-pong games we had at 13 station when Drew used to go to his locker and bring out his "special paddle". I also remember all those phenominal lunches and dinners Drew prepared for us . One of Drews famous lines that he would always say on Sunday nights when he was going to have dinner with his mom and not cook was "You guys are on your own tonight". I am the last man still living from that crew at 13 station and strange as it seems I am only 59 years old. - Posted by: Alex Zaporowski #1012 (Friend and fellow firefighter) on: Mar 09, 2013

  • Dear Barb, Melissa, and Family, I met Drew and all of you through my very good friend David Wass, and though I did not have the opportunity to see Drew very often, whenever I did he always gave me that very special "Warm and Welcome" feeling that I am quite certain was a Drew Duff hallmark! • Dear Barbara, Melissa, Jim, Cec and the entire Duff family. So saddened to read of the added loss to your family. Our memory of Drew is when our sister Diane, was 18 yrs. of age, she passed away just short of her 19th birthday (1975), lost her wallet at Polo Park. She came home so upset as she had just started her first job and it was pay day, so off to Polo Park she went. Surprisingly, the next day which was a Saturday, the phoned rang and it was Polo Park Security, informing her the wallet had been found and handed in by a fellow named Drew Duff. She was so grateful to him and relieved the money had been found. You can be assured that Drew is now joined by your parents during the holy time of the lenten season and looks forward to the day when you as well will join with him in his glory. Take care and God Bless. The Polanski girls. Darlene and Linda - Posted by: Darlene Hoffman (acquaintance/friend) on: Mar 05, 2013

  • My most sincere and deepest condolences to everyone that knew Drew. Some of my earliest childhood memories involve hanging out with Drew in his backyard pool. He had always been there for my family and especially my father. Among Drew's many accomplishments, the one I will always be most grateful for was for everything he did for my father. When my father was in very rough shape, Drew went far beyond the call of duty and he quite literally saved my father's life. I will be eternally grateful for that. Drew, you will be deeply missed. Thank you for everything you have done for our family. - Posted by: Robert Vance (Friend) on: Mar 05, 2013
