Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMICHAEL CHEMERIKA Michael Chemerika, 92, of Winnipeg, MB, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday March 6, 2013, at Concordia Hospital. Mike was born June 3, 1920, in Mountain Road, MB. Mike is survived by his wife Margaret of 64 years; sons, Arnold (Bonnie), Dennis, and Harvey; daughters, Shirley (Doug) Haarsma and Kimberly (Angelo) Chemerika of Victoria, BC; sisters, Anne (Bill) Prokopchuk, Mary Baranuik, brother, Richard (Marie) and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family. On June 17, 1948, Mike married the former Margaret Nester in Neepawa, MB. As a young man, he owned his own business hauling wood and in 1949, Mike started with Manitoba Hydro where he worked until retiring in 1982, after 33 years. Mike was very involved with his church, Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Parish and served for many years on a variety of committees and often volunteered in church activities. Mike was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 12 at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 505 Watt St. at Munroe Ave. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, in Neepawa, MB. Special thanks to the staff of Bethania Home where Mike received excellent care since 2009. In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael's memory may be made to the Bethania Personal Care Home, 1045 Concordia Ave. Winnipeg, MB, R2K 3S7 or www.bethania.ca, or to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway Ave. Winnipeg, MB, R3C 0S6. Best regards to the family. A special thank you to Margaret for the caregiving for these past long years due to alzheimer disease. It is a horrible disease for the caregivers and those affected.
