MELVIN DENNIS ELIAS It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis at age 67 years, of cancer. Left to cherish many wonderful memories are his daughter, Rhonda (Richard) Cenerini, grandsons Collin, Alec and Lindy (Alec's canine companion); his brother Jack (Elizabeth) Elias; and sister Shirley (Moe) Gerus; nieces and great-nieces Jennifer and Kiran, Kim, Jamie and Terri-Lynne, all residing in Calgary, Alberta. Dennis was the youngest of three children born to Agatha and Henry Elias on October 6, 1945, who have now welcomed him home on March 13, 2013. After high school Dennis attended Engineering at University of Manitoba and then went on to Architectural Technology at Red River College. He secured a position at Reid Crowthers before moving to Community Planning with the Province of Manitoba in 1972. He worked as a planning technician for over 38 years on projects that helped shape rural communities of Manitoba until his retirement in December, 2010. Dennis truly enjoyed his work but his passion was building, creating and redesigning homes. Dennis could take a blueprint and work his magic to create a beautiful, unique and special space to call home. His handywork was shared freely with so many family and friends over the years. Most recently, he created a cottage plan for his daughter and her family to enjoy, while battling cancer. Dennis' sparkling blue eyes and infectious smile lit up a room, but he will be best remembered for his kind and generous heart, always willing to lend a hand. Most of all, the love, compassion, support and the special bond shared with his daughter Rhonda and her family over the years was unwavering and unconditional. He was always there for his little princess! Rest well Daddy, in the arms of the angels. The family would like to thank the head and neck cancer team who treated him during his brief cancer battle and Dr. F. Salem and the staff at the Victoria General Hospital for the excellent care they gave Dennis in his final weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to National Service Dogs, P.O. Box 28009, Preston Postal Outlet, Cambridge, Ontario, N3H 5N4, www.nsd.on.ca, to improve the lives of other children like his grandson, Alec. I never had the pleasure of meeting Dennis and this is the first time I've seen his picture. I'm the fellow who was hired to replace Dennis when he retired. I've only heard of his passing just now, as my coworkers return from his service. My thoughts are with you, his family. Dennis and I have been lifelong friends and most recently spoke on the phone in December. I have many memories of Dennis and I until I moved with my family to Edmonton in 1976.
