Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES EDWARD ASHTON 1931 - 2013 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Dad, Grandfather and Uncle on Monday, March 11, 2013 after a lengthy battle with cancer. His son Ray was at his side. Dad was born in Calgary, Alberta on January 29, 1931. His family relocated to Winnipeg in 1932 where he would spend the remainder of his life. He is survived by brother Robert; children Cheryl (Huw), Raymond (Dixie) and Pamela; grandchildren Casey (Megan) Harrison, Andrew (Dallas) Harrison, Aaron (Melanie) Mallin, Izak (Chayla) Mallin, Jamie Ashton, Jeffrey (Diane) Vanrobaeys, Jason (Nicole) Vanrobaeys, great-grandchildren Audrey, Emma and Owen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His wife Cathy, his parents Milt and Marjorie, and sister Joy Paterson preceded him. Dad was a great lover of the outdoors. His hunting, fishing and snowmobiling stories were legendary and his love for his fly-in fishing camp at Frenchman Lake brought him great joy. There were very few places Dad had not been in Manitoba. His father was an early aviator, and consequently Dad had the good fortune of exploring this province from an early age. If you were ever to mention a lake, town or park you had visited or were thinking of visiting, Dad would have a story. He was before his time in many regards; he always had the most up to date toys and loved to share them with his family and friends. Dad was a very generous soul and loved to share his good fortune. He raised his family to think of others who might be less fortunate. At Dad's request there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MS Society. The family would sincerely like to thank the nursing staff at the Davidson Memorial Hospital in Cartwright for their excellent care.
