ENID PHYLLIS GILLESPIE (CHRISTOPHERSEN) (DUBOIS)
Date of Passing: Mar 17, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryENID PHYLLIS GILLESPIE (nee CHRISTOPHERSEN) (DUBOIS) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing on March 17, 2013 of our much-loved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Aunty Enid Gillespie in her 85th year. She was predeceased by her parents Christopher and Ida; her sisters Minna, Ella, Lily, Alice, Betty; her brothers Earl, Dan and Hughe, and her husband, George. Enid is survived by her children Jack (Kim Monson), Gayaline Minch (Kevin), Tim (Leah) and Mikel (Pearl Tomchuk), ten grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Carol Christophersen, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins across Canada. Enid was born and raised in the West End of Winnipeg and lived most of her life here. She recalled fondly participating in track and field at General Wolfe and Daniel MacIntyre. Mom left school to work at CN Telegraphs just after the Second World War, where she met our father, Fred. After her children were born Enid worked at a variety of places including St. Vital School Division, Perth's laundry plant and Duffy's Taxi. Enid was very civic-minded, serving two terms on the Board of Winnipeg School Division No. 1, and for a time as President of the West End Seniors Centre. Enid was one of the early members of Sweet Adelines in Winnipeg. She was a 40 plus year member of Alano Group. Mom was an excellent seamstress, sewing clothes for the whole family in the early days, including dress pants, shirts and coats, and was known for her trademark, self-designed and crafted colourful outfits right to the end. She was also very musical, playing the accordion and piano, with a wonderful singing voice. Always feisty and independent of spirit, in mid-life Enid took up body-building and skydiving, although the accidental death of a friend persuaded her to give that up after a few jumps. Mom had her own unique sense of fashion and colour, and in the last decade was a self-taught oil painter. A long-time member of the Norman Art Group, she exhibited in several venues around the city and did sell some of her bold artwork but gave most of her finished works to friends and family to enjoy. Mom took great pride in her large and loving family, and always worked at keeping everyone connected. Never shy, you always knew when Mom was at a family gathering, and she never hesitated to give a candid opinion - always meant with love, of course. Enid enjoyed very much the company and friendship of her card-playing buddies at Lions Place this past year and a half, as well as those who joined her at meals or for singsongs around the piano. The family would like to thank Theresa Watson for her care and friendship to Mom for the last 15 years. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a private family service lakeside at Gimli this summer. We love you Mom/Grandma and will miss you very much. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.

I will always remember her as the best person that my cousin George married. The last time that I heard from her was at Christmas. My deepest sympathy goes out to her family in their loss. Virginia (Victoria B.C.) - Posted by: VIRGINIA JOHNSON (COUSIN OF HER HUSBAND GEORGE) on: Mar 25, 2013

Words escape me.... there is an empty place in my heart today, but I will fill it with all of the loving memories my Mother left me.
