THOMAS (TOM) WALTER BODNER July 5, 1957 - March 17, 2013 Tom passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 17, 2013. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara, sisters Bonnie Bodner and Diane Wizniak (Bill), nephew Bill Wizniak (Trisha, Connor and Laura) and niece Marni Grabowski (Blaine, Kevin and Lisa). He was predeceased by his father Walter in 1984, and his mother Kathleen in 1999. Tom never knew Barb's mom Rita who passed away in 1995, but he grew very fond of Barb's dad Jim Fisher who unfortunately passed away two weeks after Tom and Barb's wedding in 2001. From his late teens until his debilitating illness forced him to quit work in 2002, Tom was a dedicated, hardworking employee at Chateau Bowling Lanes on Nairn Avenue. He loved sports and supported all of Winnipeg's teams. He was a Bomber season's ticket holder for many years and enjoyed watching the Jets games on tv. He and his wife Barb also attended many Goldeyes games but his big league baseball heart belonged to the Minnesota Twins. Tom lived all his life in Elmwood but such was his love of meeting and talking to people that wherever he travelled he encountered someone he knew or someone he wanted to know. On his last trip to Las Vegas (always his destination of choice) he had the thrill of meeting one of his idols, Pete Rose. Tom was a kindhearted soul who easily shed a tear at both good news and bad. He will be missed by many. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. If friends so desire, donations in his memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.

We were close friends through high school and then I moved from Winnipeg. He was always a very caring friend, compassionate human being, and a sports nut. Tom, I’m fortunate that we reconnected before your last journey. I think of you often. Until we meet again. AL - Posted by: AL Treddenick (Friend) on: May 14, 2024

I met Tom about 35 or so years ago thru bowling at chateau lanes, he was a good friend and team mate. When he got that fire in his eyes we called him the tamminater, with his unorthodox style like a bull in a china cabinet but some how he made it work. Tom you will be missed by many people as you have touched the hearts of all you met, R.I.P my friend DD. - Posted by: Daryl Dutchak and Family (Frend) on: Mar 25, 2013

Always made me happy when Tom and Barb came into the office to see me. You could always count on them being together. I marvel at Tom's ability to stay positive and never complain in the face of adversity. A kind and compassionate fellow to the end. I'll miss seeing you. - Posted by: Anthony Hlynka () on: Mar 25, 2013

There are soooo many great memories of us spending time together growing up...memories that will remain forever in my heart. I have yet to meet a more kind-hearted, gentle soul. You earned your wings a long time ago Tom :). My sincerest condolences to Barb and the rest of the family. During this most difficult time, try to find comfort in remembering the time you had with this beautiful soul and know that he will always be near... - Posted by: Barb Kempf (Cousin) on: Mar 25, 2013

I've known Tom since Kindergarten! A master of arithmetic and sports statistics! Only spoke to him a few times since grade 12 and my joining the Canadian Forces. I'm sure he's keeping score and statistics in a better place. - Posted by: Glen W. Napady C.D. (School Friend) on: Mar 24, 2013

I'm sad to hear of Tom's passing. It's been a long time but I will always remember Tom as one of my first friends and a truly nice person. Our parents were friends from the Elmwood Legion and I spent many days over at the Bodners. Tom invented a game with baseball cards where you had to scoop them with your hand, and if you got one to fly into the top drawer of his dresser that was a home run, etc. Also we spent many days playing football in the small park on McCalman. Rest in Peace Tom you left too soon. - Posted by: Kevin DuCharme (Childhood friend) on: Mar 24, 2013

What can I say about Tom? My goodness, first met him almost 40 years ago, bowled with him for several years, TRIED to teach him to swim and to drive a car. He swam like a rock! He was there when my sons were born, and shared many of his thoughts and dreams with me after bowling evenings. I remember his family, and his home on Talbot. I was so happy for him when he found Barb, and sad when I heard about his deteriorating health. He supported me when I lost my spouse, I hope I can help support his through this. - Posted by: Roberta Beach (friend) on: Mar 23, 2013

I met Tom at Chateau when he first started. He was a hard worker and always did his best to resolve lane problems for league bowlers. Tom was a good person who never said a bad word about anyone.
