MYRA WAXMAN With deep sadness and loving memories, we announce the passing of Myra Waxman (Altman) on March 22, 2013, peacefully, at the home she lived in for 58 years, surrounded by family. She is survived by a son Martin (Maureen Judge), daughters Gayle and Sheara (Manny Sousa) and grandchildren Jacob, Rebecca and Alexandra. She's also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Alexander, her parents Bella and Sam Altman, brothers and in-laws Dave and Dorothy Altman and Harry and Rose Altman, Chaya and Beryl Segal, Ellen and Sam Broder, Haim-Hersh and Udia Waxman and Ben and Sadie Waxman. Myra was born in Winnipeg and grew up in small-town Saskatchewan. She and her family returned to Winnipeg when she was a teenager and she graduated from St. John's High School. On a blind date in Montreal, she met Alex Waxman, who became the love of her life and persuaded him to move back to Winnipeg where they started a business, The Fabric Centre. Myra and Alex had 47 wonderful years of marriage, raised three children and were true partners in life and in work. They shared everything and had a deep, lasting love. Myra was a kind and warm-hearted woman with a quiet determination. She made her opinions known in a firm, but gentle way, listened and was always able to see both sides of the story. She had intelligence and curiosity, fueled by her passion for reading novels, magazines and keeping up with the news. She had a sharp sense of humour, a flair for style and loved to laugh. She worked hard and tirelessly, had boundless energy and always put other people first, especially her children and family. She was devoted to her grandchildren and had a special bond with each of them. Her house was always open and welcoming - and everyone knew that when you dropped by Myra would entertain you with tea and her home baking. Myra will be missed, loved and remembered by her family. Thank you to Rabbi Alan Green. A special thank you to Anita for her many years of kindness and devoted care. Thanks also to the care givers who treated Myra so specially in her final years. And thanks to Dr. Bruce Martin, Dr. Ted St. Godard and Dr. Robin McClure and the palliative care team. A graveside service was held, Monday, March 25 at Rosh Pina Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Larry Altman, David Garfield, Cory Leishman, Manny Sousa, Dr. Menashe Waxman, Greg Yakubovitch and David Youssiem. Donations in Myra's memory may be made to the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg or a charity of your choice.
