Date of Passing: Mar 24, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHALEEN JOYCE MACKIE September 3, 1935 - March 24, 2013 With heavy hearts, the family of Joyce Mackie (nee Trumbley) announces her peaceful passing on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at the Victoria General Hospital. Joyce is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Bob; their daughter Cindy (Renny); son Brent (Bev); grandchildren Justin (Lin Lin), Trevor (Cindi) and Denny (Jessica); great-grandchildren Chloe, Tristan, Domenic and Alexandre; sisters Matilda, Evyonne and Lynda (Gil), and many extended family members and friends. She was predeceased by her father Charles Trumbley; mother Gertrude Wyness; brother Fred Trumbley; sisters May Orpin and Cecile Sutton; brothers-in-law John Templeton Sr. and Ray Jewsbury; sisters-in-law Ivy Trumbley, Doreen Trumbley and Helen Orpin; uncles Fred Martin and Bill Martin; nephews Carl Templeton, Jack Sutton, Robert Templeton, and nieces Barbara Topnik and Carol Archer. Born in Shoal Lake, Manitoba, Joyce moved with her family to Winnipeg at age 15. After graduation from Glenlawn Collegiate, Joyce was a permit teacher at Randale School for one year. She then worked at Royal Bank until she married the love of her life on May 15, 1954. Mom always took such pride in her family and her home. She was so proud of her children's accomplishments. Cindy had a rewarding career as a travel consultant, becoming a manager at Sears Travel. Brent enjoyed a lengthy career in the Information Technology industry. Mom always made sure everyone was well fed and never went hungry. There was always room for one more around Mom's table. Mom's baking, especially at Christmas, was always a welcome sight to her family and friends. Mom's shortbread and butter tarts were legendary, and she always made sure you went home with a special treat. After Dad retired from CP Rail, they enjoyed travelling. They had great adventures in New Zealand, Australia, and her favourite, Maui. Mom found such peace and enjoyment in watching the whales from the condo balcony in Maui. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In The Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., with reception to follow. A private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lupus Society of Manitoba Inc. Those we love remain with us. In the whisper of the wind, in a soft rain that falls from heaven, in each sunrise, in every single star that lights the night sky, and in every single memory we hold within our hearts.
