Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMISS MARGARET MARY LEESE Margaret was born June 1, 1919 in St. John, New Brunswick and passed away March 12, 2013, surrounded by family. She spent her first few years moving around the country and eventually settling in Winnipeg. Margaret attended St. Anne's School and received her secondary education at St. Mary's Academy. Margaret chose teaching as a career, and taught for many years at Laura Secord School. She would always tell you that she had dozens of children when asked, as she was a very dedicated teacher. Her true calling was Music, especially the Piano. Margaret was a gifted pianist, and spent many years passing on her gift and knowledge to eager young people. She was always so proud of her pupils and worked tirelessly with each and every one. Margaret was very involved in the Piano Teachers Associations and was at one time President of the Manitoba Piano Teachers. She loved her Wednesday morning Musical, a time when other gifted musicians and teachers would meet and keep up with technique. Perfection was very important to her. Margaret was an honoured member of the Royal Canadian Conservatory of Music. She was a woman ahead of her times, being independent, owning her own business, and driving a car, that was a big accomplishment years ago. Margaret also found the time to share her piano skills each and every Sunday morning Mass at St. Anne's Church where she was a loyal parishioner. Margaret is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Captain James H. Leese, and both her younger sisters, Winifred and Dorothy. Heaven has one more Angel. A celebration of life will be held at St. Anne's Church, 279 Hampton Street, Winnipeg on Thursday, April 4 at 1:00 p.m. A family interment will follow later that day.

I ALSO was a kindergarten student of Miss Leese's at Laura Secord in 1950-51 and thought she was wonderful! I took piano in subsequent years from Phyllis Holtby and then theory from Miss Leese as well. This, then-very-shy little girl will always remember her as a lovely, kind, woman. - Posted by: Leslie (Manos) Worts (former student) on: Mar 31, 2013

I studied theory and harmony with Miss Leese for several years. She was close friends with Phyllis Holtby with whom I studied piano for years. I remember that Margaret Leese lived in a small house in St. James. She was a lovely woman. - Posted by: Sylvia Huebert (Miss Leese's student) on: Mar 30, 2013

Miss Leese was my kindergarten teacher at Laura Secord for the 1950-51 school year. I was a very shy, withdrawn boy but Miss L's kindness and patience made my first experiences with the school system a LOT easier, and by year's end, even fun as I had integrated into the class with new friends. My Mom thought the sun rose and set on Miss L for all she achieved with me. Throughout my early life at home with my parents, the kindergarten class pic hung on my parents' bedroom wall, the only class pic ever to hold that honour. I now have the pic at my home. I was fortunate to have bumped into her and her harpsichordist/pianist friend Phyllis Holtby whom I also admired, about 15 years ago and recognized her instantly. I then saw her a bit later at her home on Berry Street. How often do we get to re-connect with those who made a difference in our formative years? I was blessed as a child and again as an adult for having the opportunity to re-connect. She was a wonderful woman who was the epitome of the teacher. I'm sure she'll be dearly missed by all who were close to her and I extend my condolences to her family and close friends. All she so unstintingly gave of herself to so many, many people will never be forgotten. She made a difference. Rest in peace Miss Leese. - Posted by: Gord Richardson ( Former student) on: Mar 30, 2013
