Date of Passing: Mar 24, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTEUNIS VAN LEEUWEN We sadly announce the passing of our much loved Dad, Opa and Great-Opa on Sunday, March 24, 2013. Dad passed away peacefully at Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, with his family by his side. Dad was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Dirske, grandson Owen, and son-in-law Ed. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Joanne (Justo), Bert (Alice), Anneke (Lawrence), Jacqueline, Jake (Greta), Willy (Darrell), Nelly (Art), Grace (Ed), Rick (Sonja) and Sarina. Dad was blessed with 30 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother and two sisters. Dad was born in 1924 in Ijsselmonde, Holland. He met Mom at choir practice and they got married in 1949. In 1954 they immigrated to Canada with their three children and settled in Winnipeg, where they raised their family of 10. Dad worked as a printer/linotype operator in Holland and continued in this field at Kromar Printing until his retirement. His hobbies included fishing, gardening, woodworking and playing his harmonica. Church and faith was a big part of Dad's life and both Dad and Mom sacrificed a lot so that their children could attend Calvin Christian School. We are thankful for the Christian values instilled in us and we are comforted knowing that Dad is with God. The last few years of Dad's life were difficult as he suffered from dementia; the family would like to thank the staff at Middlechurch Home for the care they have given our Dad. We would also like to thank our friends and family and Dad's church community for their prayers and support. Funeral service will be held on Monday, April 1 at 11:30 a.m. at Providence Reformed Church, 2615 Henderson Hwy., Pastor Anjema officiating. Interment will be held privately. Memorial donations may be made to Calvin Christian School, 245 Sutton Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. Green Acres Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
