Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMURIEL VALENTINE MACKELSON May 10, 1922 - March 25, 2013 With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our mother with family by her side at the Golden Door Geriatric Centre, Winnipeg. Mom was predeceased by her husband Walter after 50 years of marriage (1997) and two sons Reid (1949) and Larry (1998), brother Conrad and sister Viola. She is survived by her children, Wayne (Beverly), Darryl, Joy (Bob), Beverly (Bill), Karen (Terry), Kay (Gord), Ray (Holly), Wanda (Brian), Kelly (Barry), 17 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, brother Tommy (Illa) and sisters Fern (Earl), Beryl, Marcella (Doc), Aunt Florence, cousins, nieces and nephews. Mom was born and raised in Balsam Bay, and after marrying dad in 1947 moved to Grand Marais to raise their family. After dad's passing, mom lived in Selkirk and Winnipeg. Mom's talents were especially displayed in her baking, playing the guitar, piano, organ, singing favourite country music, gentle care of flowers and plants. Her favourite social activity was playing Bingo. Mom was a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 42 and the Over Sixty Club in Selkirk. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 1 at 1:00 p.m. at Christ Church (Anglican), 227 McLean Ave, Selkirk, MB with reception to follow, The Rev. Dr. Brad Elliot officiating. Private family interment will be at St. Jude's Anglican Church Cemetery in Grand Marais. Honorary Pallbearers are sons Wayne, Darryl, Ray; Pallbearers are grandsons Sean Bourgeois, Adam Rout, Eric Rout, Heath Unrau, Stuart Keith, Ray Mackelson Jr., Arrangements by Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk. Mom we love you, Rest in Peace

Sorry to hear the passing of Muriel. My condolences to the whole family. Your mom always had a smile for everyone. She was genuinely happy to see you and everyone was always welcome in her house. She was blessed and a good person. That's why God kept her around for such a long time. We won't be home for the funeral, but I'll be in touch when I get home.
