Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBARBARA RUTH SNELL (nee DELAMATER) 1924 - 2013 With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother peacefully on March 26, 2013, in Winnipeg. Barbara was born in Two Harbors, Minnesota on November 6, 1924. She moved to Winnipeg as a young child with her parents and grew up in River Heights. She attended Sir John Franklin, Queenston, Robert H. Smith, Kelvin High and Oxford House School For Girls where she was her class Valedictorian in her graduating year. She was also a member of the Pi Delta Phi sorority. While attending United College she met her soul mate Bill Snell and they married in 1951. She worked at the Bank of Montreal and Great-West Life and then left the work force to raise a family of four. She was active with Kinettes and served a term as President. She also was involved with the Canadian Club in Winnipeg. Many long term friendships developed with Barb and Bill's involvement in Kinettes/Kinsmen and the Kinley Investment Group. Once the kids were older she went back to work at McLeod's and Agriculture Canada at the University of Manitoba, and did part time work for U & R Tax Services. Barbara was a strong lady who never complained and was always bubbly and alive. She was the tiny general on the many family camping trips used to field test tent trailers. She loved travel with Bill and before his passing in 1994, they visited Hawaii, Greece, England and Mexico. She spent several winters in Victoria after 1994, with a group of friends. Barbara was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Bill, brother Leon Delamater and oldest daughter Leslie Snell. Barbara is survived by her sister Susan Flaxman (Jack) of Vineland Ontario, sons Jim (Irene) of Winnipeg, Don (Jackie) of Beaconia MB. and daughter Barbara Barbour (Charles) of Winnipeg. Granddaughter Ashlee, grandsons: Geoff (Shar), Anthony, Aaron (Nickie), Jacob (Nikou), Jonathan, Tyler (Lindsay), Nick, Daniel (Havilah), David and Charlie and her one great-grandson William. Special thanks to the staff of West Park Manor for their care of Mom in the last 18 months. A Funeral service will take place at Thomson "In The Park" Funeral Home and Cemetery 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Winnipeg on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers consider a donation to a charity of your choice in Barbara's name. The Miracle of Friendship: There's a miracle called friendship, That dwells within the heart, And you don't know how it happens, Or how it get its start . . . But the happiness it brings you, Always gives a special lift, And you realize that friendship, Is Gods most precious gift. This vibrant tiny lady will be forever remembered and sadly missed by family and friends alike. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

Barbara was a very dedicated member of the Kinette and Kinsmen movement here in Manitoba. Her kindness and her volunteer work to help our Kinsmen make life easier for many people was much appreciated. Barbara and I go back over sixty years. She was a bridesmaid at our wedding. A very special lady with a lovely smile and a good laugh. Unfortunately I had lost track of her these past several years and I do not have an address for the family. Our heartfelt sympathy to all the family. She will be missed by all. In the mid-80’s, I was co-worker of Barb’s at AgCanada, and I will never forget how kind and friendly she was to everyone. Back then, as a young gal, I was very envious of her lovely mink coat…she wore it with such class and elegance and I will never forget that. RIP Barbara. - Posted by: Cecile (AgCanada co-worker) on: Apr 02, 2013

My fondest memory is Don and I getting `heat`over our purchase and the dangers of motorcycles. When she confessed never having been on one, I offered to take her for a ride. She went and the `heat`was off. A fine lady. My life has been richer from my association to her and her family. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Earl Johnson (Family friend) on: Mar 31, 2013

I had occasion to meet Barbara when I was working for the Canadian Women's Club. Had many conversations with her and she was kind enough to let me park at her home so I could attend a concert at J.B. Mitchell School to see my granddaughter. I will always remember her sweet smile and her friendliness. Rest in Peace Barbara you will be missed. - Posted by: Jo-Anne Roberts (friend) on: Mar 30, 2013
