GENEVIEVE (PEGGY) BROWN
Date of Passing: Mar 29, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGENEVIEVE (PEGGY) BROWN With a great deal of sadness the family of Genevieve "Peggy" Brown announces the passing of their Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother on Friday, March 29, 2013, at the age of 90 years. Peggy was predeceased by her loving husband of 42 years, William (Bill) Brown, her parents Mary and Michael Williams and her brother Bill Williams. Especially feeling her loss are her three sons: Craig (wife Heather, sons Christopher, Lindsay, Scott and his wife Carrie and their two children Tyler and Taylor), Allen (wife Jill, sons Michael and Joshua), Jim (wife Phyllis, daughter Aynsley and partner Ginette and daughter Taylor, son Aron and wife Kelly and their children Nora, Gwen and Henry, son Cameron and daughter Genevieve "Genny"). Peggy is also survived by her elder sister Evelyn Belzer of Florence, OR and many nephews and nieces, including her very special niece Catherine Duncan of Richmond, BC. Mom was born and raised in Portage La Prairie, MB. It was there she first met her husband Bill, while they were both working at the local Safeway store. Bill and Peg were married April 29, 1942 just before Dad went overseas with the Canadian Navy. While Dad was away serving in the Second World War, Mom lived temporarily in Victoria, BC. Upon Bill's return the couple moved to South Ft. Rouge in Winnipeg and started their family. Most of Mom's life was spent living in the Riverview area where she tended to the growth of her three sons and her backyard flower and vegetable gardens, both endeavours of which she was very proud. Her summers were spent mostly at the family cottage at Jessica Lake, where she created even more garden space out of a little earth and a lot of granite. Once Peggy's boys were in high school she decided to expand her personal activities and return to the paid workforce. She ultimately worked for 25 years as the Manager of the well-known clothing boutique, The Third Step. Working in this setting was perfect for Mom. She had always been a very style conscious woman, with a classy touch to her own personal attire. Mom and Dad spent many wonderful times together travelling throughout Europe, Hawaii, Florida, Texas, the southern United States and Western Canada. After Dad's passing and her retirement from the local retail scene, Mom decided to move on her own out to White Rock, BC. This was a major move for a woman in her late 60s, especially having to leave all her immediate family back in Winnipeg. Besides Mom's entrepreneurial spirit and her "love of the sale", Peggy was a fabulous knitter. She could knit absolutely anything and do it fast - a pair of woolen mitts while you were eating your lunch. Her world-famous white toques are still being worn by her great-grandchildren. Mom had a great sense of humour with an accompanying great smile and an easy laugh or giggle. She seems to have passed that trait along to many in her extended family. If the Browns were ever having a good time, Peggy was likely leading the way. Mom's final years and days were spent in the Riverview Health Centre and the family would like to thank the staff for the exceptional and compassionate care she received over the years. In keeping with Mom's wishes cremation has taken place. A Service and Reception celebrating Peggy's very full life will be held at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard at 2:00 p.m., Friday April 5, 2013. Honorary pallbearers will be Peggy's grandchildren: Christopher, Lindsay, Scott, Michael, Joshua, Aynsley, Aron, Cameron, and Genny, In lieu of flowers, any donations can be made to the Riverview Health Centre, One Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4. Peggy was a super friend and an employee with a computer in her head. Her sunny personality charmed everyone. She will be remembered most fondly. My condolences to all her family. - Posted by: marilyn (marnie) marshall () on: Apr 04, 2013

I will always remember Peggy fondly. Peggy ran my Dad's dress boutique for so many years and was such a valued friend to both my parents. My father, Grant Marshall, always said that "Peggy could sell sand to the Arabs" and she certainly ran a successful shop. Peggy will always be remembered in our house as the maker of delicious fudge! I still don't think we've mastered her recipe but we'll keep trying!! Our thoughts are with your family at this time of loss.
