AGNES (GERRY) DUHAME Peacefully on Saturday, March 30, 2013, at the Vista Park Lodge, Winnipeg, MB, we lost our mom at the age of 92. She leaves to mourn her brother James Simpson, daughter Penny (Stan) Kennedy, son James (Gloria) Duhame, grandchildren Robyn (Jay) Guarino, Ashley Duhame (Tylor), Kayla Duhame (Jason), great-granddaughters Kole and Quinn Guarino, also nieces Diane, Rosemary, Paula, nephews Leonard and Tim. Mom was predeceased by her parents Charles and Margaret Simpson, her infant son Thomas Duhame, her brother John, sisters Peggy, Helen (Ella), and Mamie her close friend and sister-in-law Shirley Simpson and niece Maureen. Mom grew up in St. Vital and resided in her St. Vital home on Sterling for over 55 years, with the last three spent at Vista Park Lodge. In her early years Mom and Dad owned and operated Diamond D. Riding Stable on Sterling of which we have many happy memories. During her life Mom worked numerous jobs starting as a young girl at Eaton's mail order, taking time off to raise her family then working at St. Amant Centre, St. Regis Hotel and Meadowood Manor where she retired at age 65. Mom loved taking care of people and loved her job at Meadowood Manor. Mom worked so hard to make a home for us, our friends were always welcomed at our house and later her home became a warm place for her grandchildren, Robyn, Ashley, and Kayla. Moms house always a soft spot to land and we knew we could always go home and be welcomed with open arms. Mom loved all animals especially horses, dogs and cats. She will always be known as Grandma Kitty to Ashley and Kayla. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 5, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at the Parish of St. Timothy, 135 John Forsyth Road with viewing one hour prior to the commencement of the service. Interment will follow at St. Vital Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be held in the Parish Hall. Special thanks to the staff of Vista Park Lodge, and in particular John, Leona, Tammy, Roseland, Diane and Trinity for their loving care and support for Mom and our family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Hospital Foundation or Craig's Street Cats (No Kill Shelter), 204-421-1919. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca. Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • You are the definition of what a grandma should be, I couldn't ever have asked for a better one. I will always cherish the memories we had like our sleepovers, you making me chicken noodle soup and having the couch made up for me when I was sick, our walks to the mall and you saving anything we ever drew even if it was just on a napkin :) As my birthday passed I realized just how much I missed your call. No matter where I was you would always get a hold of me and ask if there was a birthday girl there and then sing me happy birthday. Thank you for being the best grandma ever and giving me your love and compassion for rescuing cats. I will forever love and miss you. - Posted by: Ashley Duhame (Granddaughter) on: Aug 06, 2013

  • Mrs Duhame was one of those moms on Sterling that I always felt so welcome visiting. I can still see her cheery warm smile and hear her lilting voice. Thank you for making my childhood a happy one. - Posted by: Clint (Neighbor) on: Apr 04, 2013

  • Aunties' obituary is so right! Penny and I were very close growing up together, with our "gang" of friends and we were always welcome at their home. Love, laughter, a shoulder to cry on and hot chocolate. A few days before her passing we were talking over "old times" and I had been thinking of her and the family. Such a big part of my life. She will be missed, a wonderful Mom and Aunt. - Posted by: Linda Mac Millan Thompson (Niece) on: Apr 04, 2013

  • I never got a chance to really get to know mrs Duhame but from all the stories the family has shared with me over the past couple of days, and to see what a wonderful family she has around her I can tell she was a wonderful person and will be truly missed. May she rest in peace and I look forqard to getting to know her in a future life. - Posted by: Tyler Kooistra (Future grandchild) on: Apr 03, 2013
