Born: Dec 15, 1921
Date of Passing: Mar 16, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET RANKIN BRUST (MCSKIMMING) December 15, 1921 - March 16, 2013 With saddened hearts we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Mom was predeceased by her parents William and Isabel McSkimming, husbands Ron Harper and Bill Brust, brothers William and Robert, sisters, Vi, Florence and Ruth, and granddaughter Jessica. She leaves behind to miss her smile, laughter and wonderful sense of humour; daughters Barb Shlanda, Billie Blancher (Greg), Debbie Stevenson (Don), Cathy Erickson (Allen); sons Howie Brust (Karyn) and Jim Brust; grandchildren, Tiffany, Lisa, Clayton, Warren, Brandy, Dustin, Kristina, Crystal and Billy, 15 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was a longtime member of the Fort Rouge Legion and Ladies Auxiliary. She spent many happy hours there. She loved her bingo and of course her Saturday night poker games with the girls. Mom made many friends through the Legion and unfortunately saw many of them pass. Mom spent her life caring for others, starting when she was in her early teens when her mother passed on. Being the oldest daughter the responsibility of caring for her younger siblings was given to her. She married Ron Harper just before the Second World War and on February 14, 1944 she received a telegram advising of Ron's death. Mom and Barb were on their own. Bill Brust came into mom's life and together they had five more children. Sometimes we thought she cared too much, at the beach I'm sure we could have gone deeper than our ankles without the fear of drowning but we obeyed her until she went to the bingo hall and had Dad in charge of us. We used to always tease her about this, but it worked, none of us drowned. Near the end of her time we had great difficulty in convincing her to give up her independency of apartment living and moving where she would finally have someone looking after her for a change. Thanks to Tuxedo Villa for helping us care for her. We will be having a Tea at the Fort Rouge Legion, 426 Osborne Street, Monday, April 8, 2013 between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Rest in peace mom and we know you will have a lot of family and friends waiting for you. The Bowes family moved into our home on Cambridge Street in April of 1950, 5 houses from the Brusts. What great memories I have being a friend of Barbara and all of the family. Your Mom was special to me. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Maureen & Don Stevenson (Lethbridge, AB.) I am so sorry to hear of Auntie Marg's passing. She was a beloved sister, who made my Mom's (her sister Flo's) golden years full and rich. I will remember her most for her wonderful sense of humour. Spending time with her was such a pleasure - she had a joie de vivre that was infectious. She was very proud of all of her children and their families, the greatest joy in her life. My heart goes out to all of you at this time of loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers. I Attended school with Billie, and my sister's were friends of Barbara's. Cambridge was a very friendly street and we all played together at times when every one would be welcome in each others homes. Sure do miss the friendships made as children on Cambridge. Hope many will come out for the children's sake.,Even though w are all adults now...Take care and rest in peace. - Posted by: Judy (Doran) Walton (Cambridge Street Neighbour) on: Apr 06, 2013
