ROGER NORMAN LABELLE (COACH) It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Roger "Coach" Labelle on March 20, 2013, at age 72. He is survived by his son, Steven Labelle of BC; daughter, Christine (Steven) Hill and grandchildren, Bryce and Bretton Hill. Roger was predeceased by his parents, Lucien and Phyllis Labelle; his brothers Philip and Raymond; and nephew Robert from Alberta. Roger was born on April 9, 1940 in Somerset, MB. At age nine, he miraculously survived a fall off a grain elevator in his home town. The family later moved to St. Boniface where Roger went to school and was active in sports, especially baseball. Roger married Janet Lavoie on February 1, 1964 and they had two children together, Christine and Steven. Roger worked at a variety of careers such as car salesman at McNaught Motors, a bus driver at The Society for Crippled Children and Adults and eventually The City of Winnipeg Parks and Recreation Branch where he worked for 30 years until his retirement. He loved his job as it involved working outdoors. Roger maintained many close and long-term friendships with his co-workers from the City, especially Murray Paterson and John Reilly. For a short time, Roger part-owned and operated a chicken business in St. Boniface called Rondi's Fried Chicken. In his retirement years, "Coach" could usually be found in his man cave (the garage) with his beloved dog, Blacks at his side. He was usually joined by friends Aurele, Byron (Tiny), Craig and many others. Roger always loved to be outdoors, whether it was camping in his younger years or more recently, sitting in his yard by a campfire or the wood stove in his garage. Roger had great neighbours, Ken and Rolly and their families who helped him and watched out for him. Roger was a very sociable and charismatic individual. He was known as a very giving and generous person who was dearly loved by those who knew him. He was always there to help someone in need. He loved to play sports and was an avid sports fan. Roger also loved animals and had many pets over the years. A "Celebration of Life" for Roger Labelle will be held on Friday, April 26 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Norwood Hotel, 112 Marion St. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.

He is in good company, as so many of his friends have already passed. I could imagine him coasting around the Remembrance party, drink in hand, he loved a party. Well done, Steve, Christine, and Steven. - Posted by: Sharon G (coworker) on: Apr 28, 2013
