DORIS RUTH MAGNUSSON (nee BURDETT) It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Doris Ruth Magnusson on Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Misericordia Health Centre at the age of 93 years. Left to forever cherish Doris's memory are her children Al (Dora); Norm (Delene); Tom (Linda); Brian (Kathy); and Sandra (Stacy) Smith. She was lovingly referred to as "Granny" by 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Mike; her mum and dad; brothers, Wally and Raymond; and sister, Vera. Doris was born to Harry and Florence Burdett on March 25, 1920, in Nottingham, England. Immigrating to Canada in 1926; the family arrived on the East Coast and made their way to Manitoba; advantageous for Magnus (Mike) Magnusson who she married on April 18, 1938. Doris and Mike enjoyed 65 years of marriage and resided in Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Regina, and Calgary and finally retired in Redwood Meadows, where they remained for 26 years until Mike's passing in January of 2004. Later in 2004 Doris returned to Winnipeg, residing in Silver View Estates Apartments where she made and enjoyed many new and lasting friendships. Doris enjoyed an active life including participation in curling, golf and loved a good game of Bridge. Her creative talents were showcased in her hobbies, which included Quilting, Knitting and Watercolour painting. Doris and Mike enjoyed traveling in their early retirement years, including trips to Hawaii, Fiji, New Zealand, England, Portugal, the Bahamas, Mexico, Texas and Holland, often including their shared love of golf. On Thursday, April 11, 2013, Doris's Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in Trinity United Church, 933 Summerside Avenue in Fort Richmond. Mum's family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Victoria General Hospital and Misericordia Interim Care for their compassion and care shown during her time with them. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mum's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 1160-675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or CNIB, 1929 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, ON M4G 3E8. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I have many memories of happy and funny times playing golf with Doris and at times with Mike in the early days at Redwood Meadows. Then there were ladies days, interclubs and of course the yearly Pinebrook Challenge. Doris was a fun lady to know. My sincere condolences to all her family. - Posted by: Lorraine Kaser (Golfing friend from Redwood) on: Apr 09, 2013

  • My condolences to the Magnusson Family. Unfortunately, I cannot attend the service because I am in Texas. Please know that I am thinking about all of you, as you grieve the passing of Doris. - Posted by: Wendy Henriksen (Niece) on: Apr 08, 2013
