EVELYN HUTSAL (nee GUSHE) July 27, 1923 - April 7, 2013 Evelyn Hutsal died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at West Park Manor. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Edward in 1998, her father Leonard, mother Mary, brother Daniel, and sister Irene. She is survived by her children and grandchildren Michael and Gisele Hutsal, Frances, and Mark; Gregory and Valerie Hutsal, Carmen and Alexa; Ted Hutsal, Jocelyn and Brent VanKoughnet, Joel and Katie; Janice and Brent Young, Brandon and Steven. She is also survived by her sister Margaret Ciekiewicz, and sister-in- law Ethyle (Gushe) Lamb. Evelyn was born in Winnipeg, and spent her formative years in the North End on Stella and St. John's Avenue. Evelyn was a good student and graduated from St. Mary's Academy and was the recipient of a full scholarship to university, however the financial circumstances of the time forced her to pass up that opportunity. Instead following grade 12 she went to Success Business College and later worked at Dickson Electric until she married the love of her life Edward. Following their marriage in 1951, Ed and Ev resided in Winnipeg. Mom especially loved their house on Sandra Bay in Fort Garry, and while living there the three boys were born. In 1958 the family moved to Brandon, shortly after they began their long association with Feed-Rite. The family expanded with two daughters, and Evelyn was often alone raising the five children while Ed was on the road. Ev was a talented artist. When she could find time, she studied drawing, painting and sculpting, through the Allied Arts Center in Brandon, and she treasured her friends in the artistic community. Her creative side was evident at home, with her eclectic choice of furnishings and art that her children now appreciate, but admittedly thought was "sorta weird" at the time. Through her daughters' skating years, she was especially involved with the Brandon Figure Skating Club, designing logos and sets for ice shows and major competitions. You can take the woman out of the North End, but you can't take the North End out of the woman. Mom was always in search of a bargain, and had her favourite places in Brandon, and Winnipeg. She was a voracious reader, and eventually had enough books to fill a good sized public library. In her later years her garden became another creative outlet. Above all, Evelyn was devoted to her family. She loved us, warts and all, and we loved her back. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2013 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, or West Park Manor. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website.
