SIDNEY ALVIN ACKERMAN March 22, 1934 - April 1, 2013 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sidney Alvin Ackerman on April 1, 2013 at the age 79, with his family by his side at the Victoria General Hospital. Sid was predeceased by his mother Clara and father Morris. Sidney leaves his loving wife of 55 years, Leebie (Lois) to cherish his memory along with his children: Ron (Laurie), Karen (Jerry), and Ruth (Tom). Sid will be greatly missed by his grandchildren: Milan, Jared, Cassie, Vince, Sam, Madison, Evan, Dustin, Tanner and Aidan. Sid also leaves to mourn his loving brother Harvey Ackerman (Corrine); sister-in-law Elaine Goldberg (Sy), and brother-in-law Earl Winestock (Penny). Sid was extremely proud and thankful for his many relatives and friends. Funeral services were held April 3 at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, with interment at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Pallbearers were Milan and Jared Ackerman; Jerry, Evan, and Dustin Roitleman; and Tom Dickie. Honorary Pallbearers were Arnold Packer, Elizabeth Posen, Neil Charach, Harvey Stein, Ron Rosenblatt, and Vinny and Sam Starkell. Many thanks to Dr. K. Cavers and the staff at Victoria General Hospital for their care and dedication at this trying time. The family would also like to recognize the compassion of the caregivers at the Simkin Centre. Appreciation is also extended to Rabbi Green and Cantor Mass. Dad was a loving father and family meant everything to him. His wife was his love of his life but his kids and grandchildren weren't far behind. He did everything and anything for his family. He was proud of each and every one, and he made sure he told mom every day that he loved her and told us kids he "loved us more". In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Sid's memory to the Simkin Centre. "On behalf of Sid, let's always remember the best caper of the day!"
