JEFFREY LAWRENCE On Monday, April 8, 2013, with his loving family by his side, Jeffrey Lawrence peacefully passed away at the age of 57. Jeffrey leaves to mourn his untimely passing his loving fiancée Jacqueline Martel and her family, his former wife Peggy Lawrence, daughter Carla (Bill), son Kevin (Jessie), sweet grandchildren Sarah, and Kaleb. Also left to mourn are Jeff's mother Herta Wach, sister Geraldine (Mike), cousin Craig Lawrence (Dorothy) and their family, Uncle Bill (June), childhood friend Gerry Trudeau (Rhonda), partner-in-crime Ray Litke (Gail), Jim and Jean Funk, and numerous other relatives and friends. Jeff was predeceased by his stepfather Stan Wach in 2012. Jeff was also predeceased by a very special companion, his dog Max. We know Jeff and Max are taking long walks together, healthy and happy, making up for lost time. Jeff was born August 12, 1955 and grew up in St.Vital. He was a proud member of the Winnipeg Police Service (Badge 1011) from June 25, 1973 until his retirement on May 19, 2012, retiring with the Rank of Patrol Sergeant. If not for his health issues, Jeff would still be with the Service, preferably as Street Supervisor, a job he loved immensely. Even after retiring, Jeff's ear would pick up the sound of a Police siren, seemingly miles away, and the look of longing on his face would say it all "I want to go to the scene and see if they need my help". One of the highlights of Jeff's life was having the opportunity to fly in the WPS Helicopter Air1 just before he retired (of course, Jeff wore a Batman T-Shirt for this ride!). Thanks to Keith McCaskill and Jeff Quail for making this happen. Special thanks to the Nurses at HSC Dialysis Unit. Jeff could be quite a character and it didn't stop when he went for Dialysis. I'm sure you found him most entertaining at times, and he spoke fondly of you all. Also thanks to Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service, you continue to be heroes. And finally thanks to Seven Oaks Hospital Emergency and Intensive Care Unit for the care you extended to Jeff. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, April 16 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Flowers graciously declined. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Jeff's name may be made to an Animal Shelter of one's choice. 204-586-8044

Condolences & Memories (20 entries)

  • To my very good friend from high school....may you rest in peace. From skipping class together, to you patiently sitting while I did your makeup for our high school plays, you had a good gentle heart and a wonderful sense of humor. I'll never forget how excited you were the day you got accepted for cadet school! I'm so sorry that I wasn't there for you in later times but glad that we were able to meet up again and reminisce. I'm glad you found someone to share your heart with again. Deen, so sorry for the loss of your brother.... - Posted by: Valerie (Small) Maxwell (Friend) on: Aug 08, 2013
