JOSEPH (KELLY) HORVATH Born in Winnipeg on February 14, 1926 Joe spent the first 47 years of his life in Winnipeg with occasional stations in Nova Scotia as a member of the Navy Reserve. His military career started as a paratrooper during the Second World War and ended with his discharge from the Navy in 1959. He worked in many positions until 1966 when he got his final and probably favourite position with Sandvik Canadian Ltd., from where he retired in 1991. He and his family relocated to British Columbia in 1973. An avid bandmaster and musician he played trumpet in numerous bands throughout his life, the last being the Richmond Legion Community Band in Richmond, BC. A dedicated golfer he was known for his teaching/coaching skills and his never-ending efforts to recruit everyone to the sport he loved. He loved photography and his family are grateful for the legacy of pictures and videos he has left behind. But perhaps his greatest fondness was for anything four legged and furry and for this reason the family is requesting that, in lieu of flowers, a donation in Joe's name be made to the SPCA or animal welfare organization of the donor's choice. There will be no service. Joe is predeceased by his father Joseph, his mother Julia, and his sister Elvira, and is survived by his wife of 65 years Iveen, his daughter LeeJane (Norm), his son Douglas (Irene) and his grandchildren Michael, Jeffrey, Alexander and Jaylene. Passing away April 5, 2013, Joe would have been a great-grandfather in May....
