JOCELYN JUNE WARDROPE Jocelyn June Fisher was born on January 22, 1925. She was the eldest daughter of June (Suckling) and John Fisher. After a short illness, Joc passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Victoria Hospital, surrounded by family, on April 13, 2013. Jocelyn was predeceased by her husband Bruce Sr., of 49 years. She is survived by her sister Shelagh (Johnny Graham), nieces Jocey and Neile. Jocelyn's memory lives on through her children and grandchildren: daughter Diane (David Pope), their children Mathew and Melissa; son Bruce Jr. (Laurie), their daughter Chelsea; son John (Margaret), John's children Devin, Alexa, and Géhdian; and daughter Judy (pets Rosy, Daisy and Buster). Joc was born and raised in Winnipeg. She spent her summers at the lake in Whytewold and Matlock, where she made many lifelong friends. Her friendships from all areas of her life were paramount and truly proved that no one is too old to make new friends. She will be missed by school friends from Rupert's Land College and the University of Manitoba, work friends from Great West Life and the Manitoba Youth Centre, friends she volunteered with at Holy Trinity and St. Paul's Anglican churches and friends from within her community. She and Bruce Sr. made many friends on their travels together and she continued to gather more friends in her many travels after his passing. All who knew her could count on her for great conversation, lively parties, and a good belly laugh. The family would like to thank Graeme, Jim and Frank for being an extended family to her. A special thank you goes to our sister Judy for her care and devotion to Mom this past year. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Holy Trinity Church's Mission Ministry lunch program. A memorial service to celebrate Jocelyn's life will be held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 256 Smith Street, Winnipeg, Friday April 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m., bun toss (Mom's expression for a reception!) to follow. Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • I was the luckiest person alive to have a woman like grandma Jocie in my life. Not only was she my next door neighbour, she was my grandma. If I was having a conversation with someone about family and we ended up talking about grandparents, I'd say "I have three grandmas". When they asked me if she was me 'real grandma' I'd say yes. She may not have been biological but she was my REAL grandma. - Posted by: Olivia (Granddaughter by choice) on: Nov 11, 2014

  • Joc is one of the very best friends I have ever had, she will be dearly missed. I'm sorry I wasn't able to be in Winnipeg for the funeral. Condolences to the family. - Posted by: Heather Bassett (nishikawa) (friend) on: Apr 20, 2013

  • As a driver for London Limos I had the privilege of driving Mrs. Wardrope many times over the years, and as one who lives by the credo "You're only young once but you can be immature forever", I felt I was with a kindred spirit. The world would be a kinder, more enjoyable place with a few more Jocelyns in it. Miss you. Neil - Posted by: Neil Woolston (friend) on: Apr 19, 2013

  • Since we can not be in Winnipeg tomorrow, we are going to celebrate with sticky buns and remembering all the good times. We miss you! Love you Aunt Joc - Posted by: Catriona Graham & Rebecca (Great niece & great great niece) on: Apr 18, 2013

  • My frequent Saturday date for ice cream and laughs. All the guys at London Limo will miss her. - Posted by: Ralph Link (Friend ) on: Apr 17, 2013

  • BEST.AUNT.EVER! breakfasts in the cottage were always at her table. Summers spent at Matlock. - Posted by: Jocelyn Harrold (niece) on: Apr 17, 2013

  • From everyone at Balmoral Hall School (formerly Rupert's Land College), please accept our deepest sympathies for your loss of Jocelyn (Fisher) Wardrope, Class of 1943. Sincerely, The Balmoral Hall School Family - Posted by: Balmoral Hall School (Highschool) on: Apr 17, 2013

  • Sending you, Diane and David, and all your family, our heartfelt condolences from the West Coast... and hoping you find some comfort in being together with family and old friends at this sad time....our warmest wishes, thoughts, and prayers go out to you. - Posted by: Kathy and Preben (Friends of Diane and David) on: Apr 16, 2013

  • We spent so many happy summers with Jocelyn at her cottage in Matlock; I have fond memories of a very generous Lady. - Posted by: Marie-Louise Kmety (Grandmother of my greatgrandson) on: Apr 16, 2013

  • The Wardrope family lived across the street on Waterford - I remember Mrs. Wardrope helping me (16) with my first "formal" dress and getting ready for a big date (knowing a girl could use a mom at that time). "Joc" was a woman to be reckoned with, heart of gold and very wise - I am grateful our lives touched. Cathy M - Posted by: Cathy (neighbour) on: Apr 16, 2013
