LESLIE CAMERON HURST April 12, 1941 - March 4, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Leslie Cameron Hurst on March 4, 2013 at the age of 71. Cam was a great friend, uncle, brother, and brother-in-law with many thousands of stories to share. He loved sports both as a fan and a player, especially baseball where he excelled. His talents were rewarded by being inducted into Manitoba's "Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame" as a Transcona Atomic member and Saskatchewans "Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame" as a 1967 Canadian Pan Am Baseball Team member. He also loved the outdoors both as an avid fisherman, hunter, guide for Plummer's Lodge and writer for Western Sportsman. His phone calls and stories will be greatly missed. At his request, cremation has taken place and no funeral service will be held. His last wishes were to anyone that knew him, to raise a glass, celebrate his life and remember the good memories. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I only met Cam once, however, read many of his stories in Western Sportsman Magazine, and was always impressed that my Dad played ball with Cam on the National team. I went on to write for Western Sportsman myself for several years but never even considered that I was filling his shoes. - Posted by: Shaun Cory (aquaintance) on: May 17, 2013

  • Cam was my late husband's best friend. We shared many memories over the years. I will dearly miss our phone conversations. Bye old friend - Posted by: Carol Stifora (friend) on: May 05, 2013

  • Spent many a week-end with Cam at the St. James and Assiniboine hotels. A fantastic baseball and a pretty good curler as well. His love for hunting and of the north was the true love of his life. His friendship will always remain with me. - Posted by: Richard "butch" Lozanski (friend) on: Apr 19, 2013

  • It's hard for me to describe how much my uncle cam's passing means to me. He had a great soul and an amazing personality. I will miss him! Now and always! - Posted by: Jessica Terhorst (Niece) on: Apr 19, 2013

  • Whenever I came back to Winnipeg, always enjoyed talking to Cam at Tim Hortons at Ferry and Portage catching up. A quiet giant has left us. - Posted by: Frank Jamieson (nieghbour on Assiniboine/retired Canadian Air Force) on: Apr 18, 2013

  • So sorry to learn of Cam's passing. He was a great person, and one of the best baseball players I had the pleasure to play with over the years. Many, many happy memories. Condolences to family and friends--R.I.P. - Posted by: Terry Moore (friend ) on: Apr 18, 2013
