BERNICE KAYSER (KURCZABA)
Date of Passing: Apr 10, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERNICE KAYSER (nee KURCZABA) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bernice Kayser (nee Kurczaba) on April 10, 2013, at the age of 96. She will be lovingly remembered by her three grandchildren, Bradley, Leslie, and Susan (Jim). She was predeceased by her parents, Nicholas and Anna, her daughter, Ruth, and her husband of 72 years, John. To the very end, Bernice was the epitome of a fine lady. Even in later years, she had a keen appreciation of fashion and of appearances. A natural beauty, she eschewed make-up for well-tailored clothes accompanied by tastefully-high heels, a striking accessory that, sadly, her tired feet could no longer endure in later life. But that was no matter. Her walk was always one of a strong, proud woman, who hardly paused when faced with life's obstacles. She was too busy preparing us sumptuous meals, which became increasingly adventuresome as Brad began cooking alongside her, introducing contemporary dishes to her generations-old Slavic ones. We're sure she'll forgive us for sharing that a pinch of sugar was her secret ingredient. This should come as no surprise, since sweetness pervaded her life. She had a kind, warm demeanor, being quick to hug and to hold hands, and to give and blow kisses. You never had to ask to hear the words "I love you"; she shared them readily. Her life was truly a full and happy one, interspersed with decades of performances by the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, as well as by the Orlan Ukrainian Folk Ensemble, in which her grandchildren danced. Aside from family, culture and cooking, though, Bernice perhaps loved nothing more than to shop. In fact, when asked by a doctor recently about how well she was able to walk, she could only think to answer in terms of how many laps she could still make around a department store the size of Eaton's, which was a second home to her in early life. Such was this well-loved and active woman of many facets. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at her final residence of Holy Family Home for their excellent care. A private funeral service will be held. Donations in Bernice's memory may be made to Holy Family Home or to Immaculate Heart of Mary School, which was attended by her grandchildren. We miss you greatly, Gran, and we will love you always.

Dear Brad, Well what can we say about Gram that hasn't already been said. Class Act just about covers it. Brad, the love and devotion that you showed your Grandparents is truly a testament to you and your relationships with the people you love. Bernice and John are now together looking down on you and your sisters smiling and forever grateful they had you all. Sorry to hear about your grandmother. I had noticed she was not at Holy Family one day, but then I left for Toronto. When I returned I asked about her and was informed she had passed away. I enjoyed saying hello to her and sharing a few words. Take care as you were the best grandson she could ask for. - Posted by: Chris Thullner (Neighbor of Brad) on: Apr 28, 2013

This is such a tribute you wrote to decribe a woman I never met but felt I knew, as Brad you shared so much of your life with her. She was truly blessed to have such a devoted grandson. She lived a wonderful full life and you were there with her to the very end. My thoughts are with you my friend as you grieve her loss. Just know that she is in a beautiful place now....remember what my son Dale said....he said it was beautiful there in Heaven.
