JEAN DREGER With loved ones at her side, Jean Dreger left this world on April 15, 2013. We are happy for Jean, for she will no longer be living with Alzheimer's disease. Jean leaves behind her dear sons Jim and Garry, daughters-in-law Holly and Madeleine, her precious, only granddaughter Marla and husband Tommy, and the two sweet girls who always made her smile, her great-granddaughters Johanna and Olivia. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Frances, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Jim Dreger, parents Violet and Peter Bochurka, brothers Tom and Eddie, and sisters Frances and Bertha. Jean spent her early years on the family farm near Winnipeg Beach. Shortly after their marriage, Jean and Jim moved to Winnipeg. Visits to her family remaining at "the Beach" were frequent. After having children, Jean worked at the Woolworth's make-up counter and helped other people look and feel their best. She also worked at Clifford's dress shop on Portage Avenue for many years. Jean had an incredible sense of style and was always perfectly put together! When she wasn't working, she was taking care of family; and Jean would do anything for her family. Jean spent many summers with her granddaughter and that meant the world to both Jean and Marla. Even in her 70s, she could be seen taking the transit bus downtown to get on a Greyhound bus bound for Winnipeg Beach to go take care of her mother for the weekend. Jean also used that caring nature to take care of her beautiful backyard garden, which was meticulously maintained. Jean was a wonderful cook and we have memories of many festive holiday dinners, weekday perogy suppers and her famous mocha torte for dessert - now a long-standing family tradition. Jean also loved entertaining and she was usually involved in a weekly bridge club. Not many people would take swimming lessons at the age of 70, but Jean did. There are very few people in this world with the kind, patient and gentle nature that Jean had. Even with a disease that commonly changes peoples' personalities, Jean was always pleasant and took whatever came to her with grace and dignity. We would like to thank the caring staff at Calvary Place for taking such good care of our Mom, our Grandma and our Great-Grandma. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

I always loved my Auntie Jean. Such a warm and caring person. Lots of fun as well. It was good times when Auntie Jean and Uncle Adolph came to Vancouver to visit. Perogies and late night fun. I spent 20 minutes in Winnipeg once and the two things I did while there were call and give my love to Auntie Jean and marvel at how dark clouds can be on the prairie. - Posted by: Bob Smart (Nephew) on: Apr 21, 2013
