GWENDOLYN MARY GOODRIDGE Gwendolyn Mary Goodridge was born November 8, 1926 in Sprague, MB. Gwen passed away peacefully after a brief illness, at the St. Boniface Hospital on April 16, 2013. She was predeceased by her loving husband Stan, her parents Margaret and Richard Mills, her sisters Edna, Janet, Margaret and her brothers Dick, Pete and Jim. She leaves her loving children, daughters: Shannon (Rick) Warren; Shelley (John) Smyth; Carolyn (Brent) Perchuk and son Bruce (Jane) Goodridge; seven precious grandchildren: Brett, Kyle, and Lyndsey Warren; Kelsey and Molly Smyth; Cristin and Parker Perchuk; and many well loved nieces and nephews. Gwen's early years were spent in Sprague, MB and she told many stories of her train trips to and from Winnipeg. Even after moving to Winnipeg her connection with Sprague remained strong. She met Stanley in 1952 at the civil service bowling league. Married in 1957 they shared a truly loving marriage of just over 50 years. Gwen was proud of her wide range of work experience from running Dick's Cafe in Sprague, travelling the province as a dental assistant, teaching classes at Angus Business College and many secretarial positions. While working as a secretary in northwestern Ontario she was the first woman allowed underground at the Campbell Red Lake Gold Mine. As a member of the Beta Sigma Phi for over 60 years she shared the wonderful support and friendship of her sorority sisters who were always an integral part of her life. Gwen made many new friends and enjoyed the Canoe Club community where she had lived for the last few years. Through stories, songs and dancing she was the bright light of any get together and made every gathering feel like a party. For years there was never a radio in the family car because Mom would sing. There was fury in her resolve matched only by her passion for living every day. She was absolutely genuine, never shied from expressing her true opinion, and never held a grudge. This earned her the love and respect of her husband, her family, and friends. The cottage at Clearwater Bay, ON has been the gathering place for the Goodridge family for over 50 years. Mom loved the lake where family and friends are always welcome. Together mom and dad created this legacy that their children and grandchildren will enjoy for many years to come. She taught us that those who wish to sing always find a song and don't take life too seriously, you'll never get out alive. We will cherish all the yesterdays and live the tomorrows with the spirit she shared, but today we will cry through our smiles and raise a glass in memory, for the good times. A cremation will take place. The memorial service will be held at St. Luke's Anglican Church, Stradbrook and Nassau at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 23, 2013 with The Rev. Paul Lampman officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Interment will be at a later date in Sprague, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Siloam Mission, 300 Princess St., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 1M3 or to a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Dr. Will Hall for his exceptional and respectful care and the staff at the of St. Boniface Hospital for their tender loving care of G. Thinking of you in your loss. Your Mom was always lots of fun, so vibrant and when she and my Mom got together it was always hilarious- their "take" on life was unique and different and quite contagious! I know you will miss her greatly but remember all the lessons she brought to your life.
