HARRIET CATHERINE CHARTRAND March 4, 1924 - April 20, 2013 It is with heavy hearts and sadness that we announce the passing of our most beautiful Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma, Harriet Catherine Chartrand on April 20, 2013 at the Seven Oaks Hospital, Winnipeg, MB. Harriet was predeceased by her husband Louis Joseph Chartrand in November 1981, her only son Albert in June 2009, her grandson Tommy Nixon in December 2009, her son-in-law Tom Nixon in January 2010 and her son-in-law Jim Steinke in November 2012. She was also predeceased by her parents Helen and Fred Lavallee, her sisters Bella, Eva and Helga; brothers Tom, Joe, George, Albert and Felix. She is survived by her six daughters; Rose Steinke, Thelma, Doris (Mike Senuria) Alice (Don Charbonneau), Margaret (Art Thorsteinson) Lil, and a daughter-in-law Sharon. She is also survived by her sister Clara, and brothers John and Norman. Harriet leaves behind a legacy of 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She loved it when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren visited her. Harriet lived in Lundar all her life until in 2002 when her family moved her to Fred Douglas Lodge in Winnipeg, MB, where she has lived for the past 11 years. Harriet enjoyed her new home at Fred Douglas Lodge Personal Care Home. She made many friends and enjoyed joking around and laughing with all of them. Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013 at the Lundar Legion Hall with Father Michel Nault officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held in the Lundar Municipal Cemetery with a lunch to follow in the Legion Hall. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons Jim Jr. Steinke, Calvin Steinke, Michael Chartrand, Terence Desjarlais, Doug Thorsteinson, Randy Thorsteinson and Robert Monkman. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons Walter Nixon and Brian Nixon, granddaughters Sandy, Sherri-Lynn and Lori-Ann, and all of her great-grandchildren. A special thank you to Rose and Joyce (two volunteers who were always so kind to Mom and took the time to watch out for her and chat and joke around with her). Thank you to all the wonderful staff on the Spruce Unit who always did their best to take care of her. Mom had her favourites and they know who they are. Thank you to all the family members who stayed by Mom's side through all of this at the hospital. A special thank you to Dr. Louis Chung for always being so kind and attentive to Mom's health issues. Thank you to Dr. Clayton Dyck from the Seven Oaks Hospital and the staff on the 5th floor Unit 1. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Harriet's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200 - 310 Broadway Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 0S6.
