Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY MARGARET MCGIMPSEY Mary Margaret McGimpsey passed away peacefully on April 21, 2013 at the Grace Hospice where she was cared for by her husband David, family and friends. Mary was born in Winnipeg to William Thomas and Mary Buck on April 19, 1933, recently celebrating her 80th birthday. Mary attended school in Stonewall and later at Red River College. She married David John McGimpsey in 1953. She and David established a solid foundation in Winnipeg and enjoyed being active with a good circle of friends. Mary was a successful athlete: curling at Assiniboine Memorial and golfing at South Interlake, Players and Blumberg. Over the years she worked at Eaton's Department Stores, Sun Valley Pools and Biglow Pharmacy. In more recent years, she and David enjoyed some travel across Canada and into the US and would be sure to visit family along the way. Mary had a keen interest in current affairs and followed them closely. She had definite views on several issues and felt it was her duty to make them known through letter writing and phone calls. She was a true supporter of her children's lives and became a part of community groups for change. Lovingly missed by both Mary and David, Mary was predeceased by her son David William in 1994 and daughter Cindy Marie in 1996. As well as sister Muriel Inman (Lorne) and brother Richard Thomas (Marion). Mary is survived by her brothers Fred (Rosemary) and Jim Buck (Virginia) and sisters Emily Phipps (Myron), Rose Hartnett (Brian) and Susan Morland (Ron), many nieces and nephews, as well as her husband David McGimpsey's extended family. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
