KAREN LYNN KROEGER (EINARSON) Peacefully on April 21, 2013 after a courageous battle with brain cancer Karen Lynn Kroeger passed away at Riverview Health Centre. Karen was born on July 25, 1965 at St. Boniface General Hospital and grew up near Ste. Anne, MB. Upon graduation from high school Karen attended the St. Boniface School of Nursing obtaining her RN in 1985. She made many lifelong friends while attending school and later working in the St. Boniface Pediatric Unit. With one of those friends she headed off to work in the US, first in Florida then California and then they took time off to travel Europe. After returning to Winnipeg, Karen completed the Intensive Care Nursing program and later began working in the Health Sciences Centre Adult Emergency where she stayed for over 15 years finding a passion for her nursing there. Along the way she grew her circle of friends further. In 1996 her nursing friends organized her introduction to Doug and in 1999 they married. Soon after they began their family and Karen truly loved her new career as a full time Mom to Jennifer and Kristjan and a part-time nurse. As the kids started school she built another circle of cherished friendships with parents and teachers at WMEMS. From her first vacation in Hawaii after graduation, to Europe, Australia, Mexico and many parts of Canada and the US, Karen always enjoyed travelling, despite sacrificing some winter vacations as the wife of an accountant. She also enjoyed building and spending time at the family get away at Bird River and tending her gardens there and at home in Winnipeg. In each place she made new friends, each of whom had a special place in her heart. Karen is survived by her husband Doug Einarson, children Jennifer and Kristjan, mother Patricia Kroeger, sister Cathy Saindon (Bob), nephews Kyle, Stephane and Matthew and sister-in-law Donna Elias (Darren) as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and her many cherished friends who she considered part of her family. She is also loved by her special friend, our dog Hope. She was predeceased by her father Nick in 1981. A funeral service will be held at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013. The family would like to express our thanks to all the medical personnel who have cared for Karen over the last two plus years and particularly thank Dr. Garry Schroeder and primary nurse Kim Paradoski, Dr. Gerry Krcek, CancerCare Manitoba Chemo room staff, H.S.C. RR6 staff and Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care unit 3E staff for all your care and compassion for Karen and us. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation directed to brain tumour research. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Hi Doug, Jennifer and Krisjan: I think of you and pray for you every day, knowing how much you miss Karen in your day to day life. She would be Sssooo proud of you! Now that 7 months have passed since Karen's passing, you 3 have managed to go on and continue to do the things Karen loved too! I saw a picture of your amazing decorations at Halloween...Fun things that Karen always loved to do. Keep doing them! It is Nov. 25th today, and I remember it is 3 years now since Karen's diagnosis of a brain tumour, and about a year since her hospitalization after the seizure. I'm so glad Karen was such a big part of my life, and that she let me be part of hers...She showed me how to have a lot of fun! With Love, Maria. - Posted by: Maria Nickel (Friend, room-mate, co-worker) on: Nov 25, 2013

I am sorry that I was unaware of Karen's passing and would have liked to have attended her funeral service. Karen just glowed when planning her wedding and so happy when Jennifer and Kristjan were born. She was such a smart, witty co-worker. She exuded a sure confidence in her work. I've thought about her many times and prayed for the family. With love, Barbara Ruhlen, HSC, Emrg - Posted by: Barbara Ruhlen (former workmate) on: Jun 05, 2013

Mes plus sincères condoléances à vous Doug, Jen, Kris and to the Family and to the extended family. Karen brought many laughs to my life, LOOOOTS of good memories and a good dash of sarcastic humor which helped me surmount many challenges… She tried on many occasions over the last 20 years to correct my dangerous English syntax, with and without success and it brought us many smiles along the way…. Many thanks to have shared Karen. I can only smile thinking of “what is going on” in Heaven now… - Posted by: Sylvie (friend) on: Apr 26, 2013

I was overwhelmed with sadness to hear about Karen's passing. She was a wonderful friend and although we didn't see each other often after I left HSC Emerg, we could always pick up as though we had only seen each other. Karen was one of those special "angels on earth" who always knew how to make a person feel better when they were having a rough day and was supportive and sensitive and had a wonderful sense of humour. Karen was especially kind to me during some tough times and I will always hold her close in my heart. She was never happier or more proud than when she was with her perfect little family....Doug and Jennifer and Kristjan....it was an honour to call her my friend.......with love and prayers....Kelly Campbell - Posted by: Kelly C Campbell (friend and old coworker) on: Apr 25, 2013

I felt very lucky when our life paths crossed again after 20 years, when a move made us neighbours. Karen's poise and humour hadn't seemed to change a bit given her challenges- her bravery was admirable. My sincere regrets to all of Karen's family. Rest peacefully.
