Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALPHONSE GUIMOND July 24, 1939 - April 22, 2013 It is with our deepest sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend Alphonse Guimond (known as Pacheeks by many) on Monday, April 22, 2013. Dad was born on July 24, 1939 of the Sagkeeng First Nation. He was predeceased by his parents Genevieve (nee Fontaine) and William George Guimond, wife Linda, brothers Felix, Lawrence and Baby Rick; sisters Baby Evelyn and Frances and brother-in-law Arthur. Dad is survived by his six children, Corinna (Clarence), Pamela (Eric), Gloria (Herman), Kurt (Evelyn), Shawn and Kimby Daniels, 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and siblings Jeanette (Victor), Francois (Lena) Joyce, Dennis (Kathy) and Elizabeth (Lesley). Dad was an avid baseball and hockey player. He played hockey in Denmark with the Sagkeeng Old Timers league. He coached minor hockey. Dad enjoyed playing baseball as well as coaching and umpiring the sport. He attended St. Mary's Indian Residential School in Kenora, where he played hockey. From there he was drafted into Junior A Winnipeg Monarchs hockey team, an affiliate of the NHL Boston Bruins which also scouted Alphonse as a prospect. Wake services will be held Tuesday, April 23 to Thursday April 24 at the Roman Catholic Church in Sagkeeng, MB. Funeral will be Friday, April 26 at 2:00 p.m., Father Malachy and Father Augustine officiating. Interment will follow at the cemetery. Pallbearers: James Guimond, Jonathon Guimond, Aaron Guimond, Randall Guimond, Chris Guimond and Adam Fontaine. Honourary pallbearers: Nicholas Guimond and Trevor Guimond. The family wishes to thank that staff at the George M. Guimond Care Centre for all their care and help over the years.
