WALTER JANSSEN It is with heavy hearts and with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved brother, uncle and friend, Walter on April 25, 2013. Walter was predeceased by his father Heinz in 1992 and mother Renate in 2000. Walter is survived by his brothers, Heinz (Grace), Horst, Henry and sister Christa. Walter is a very "Special" uncle to all his nieces and nephews and will be missed by Venus (Andre), Bridget (Gilbert), Shae (Manny), Kyle, Kurt, Christie, Shae-Lynn, and his great-nieces Alyssa, Jayden, and Sierra, and great-nephew Matthew. Walter was born on April 23, 1956 in the town of Leer, Germany. His parents immigrated to Canada in 1960. Walter loved to spend his time outdoors hunting, fishing and used to enjoy riding his motorcycle in the open air. He also enjoyed many annual fishing and canoeing trips with friends and co-workers. We always heard about "the ones that got away". Walter had a long career as a skilled carpenter working on many projects across the city and province. As per Walter's wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Mosaic Funeral Home, 1839 Inkster Blvd., 204-275-5555.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I had the pleasure of knowing Walter since I was a child as him and my older brother Clayton were close friends. Later in life I had a chance to reconnect and work with him. He was a true friend and family to myself and my family. He will be greatly missed. Luv ya big guy, rest in peace. - Posted by: Truley Nordberg & the Muska family. (Family Friend) on: Apr 30, 2013

  • Walt left us too soon. This was my year to come home at Christmas. Walt was the family Santa for decades. He wore the hat well and everyone expected him to play that role. He will be sadly missed by his brothers and sister. He was always close to our oldest brother Heinz and over the years did many things together. He loved his family and when news broke of his passing it has reunited the entire family. There was nothing Walt would not do for his family. He adored his nieces and nephews and would shower them with love. He was an outdoorsman/sportsman. He loves bikes, fishing. We did a lot of fishing when I was younger. He was a cadet with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles as a teenager. He had principles and would stick with them. If ever someone needed a hand he was there. Growing up it was always reassuring knowing Walt would be there to protect you no matter what. He will be forever missed and loved. - Posted by: Henry Mark Janssen (brother) on: Apr 30, 2013

  • Mark and family, we were so very sorry to hear about Walter's passing. Having just lost a brother ourselves, we know the deep sadness you must be feeling. Our thoughts are with you. We did not have the pleasure of knowing Walter, but we know if he was anything like you Mark he will be sadly missed. - Posted by: Neila & Floss ((Mark's friends)) on: Apr 29, 2013

  • I worked with Walter for many years. He was an excellent carpenter and when you needed something done right, he was your man. For me what will be missed about Walter was his incredibly quick wit, his sense of humor that was just a little sideways, and the deep hearty laugh that he possessed. With a man as talented as Walter you really had to earn your stripes, which is something I hope I did. I often used to poke fun at a favorite Rockwell Skill saw he had for many many years, I was told by Walter not to make fun of that saw even though it probably did belong in a museum. My sincerest condolences to his family and to all who had the privilege of working with this gentle giant of a man. May you rest well..... - Posted by: Bob Leigh (Co worker) on: Apr 29, 2013
