DEANNA STEPHANIE MOHR Deanna Stephanie Mohr (née Taylor) slipped away from us peacefully during the afternoon of Saturday the 13th of April, 2013 at the age of 72. Deanna leaves behind daughter Dana and son Kyle, as well as many dear friends and extended family. Born and raised in Flin Flon, MB, she always looked forward to her fun-filled summers with her aunts, uncles and cousins in Preeceville, SK. She met her future husband and lifelong love, Harvey Mohr, in Flin Flon during the late 1950's. Jack Freedman, Deanna's grandfather and mayor of the town, blessed her marriage to Harvey, originally from Regina. The couple soon moved to Sarnia, ON to begin their lives together and start a family. Her children were both born in Sarnia and shortly after that the young family was transferred to Montreal by the Hudson's Bay Company. It was in Montreal where Deanna made friends and memories she would cherish for her lifetime. During the early years in Montreal, Deanna worked tirelessly to bring holiday joy and hope to the city's orphans by creating spectacular gingerbread houses. She was also often seen zipping through the hills of Ile Bizard in her beloved Sunbeam Tiger, Esmerelda, with the neighbourhood children balancing precariously on the seats. Deanna loved her Boxer, Caleb; her Great Dane, Chuloh; but was not so fond of Coco and Mica, the evil Poodles. In her later years her grandpuppy, Pitou and her grandbunny, Sticky Bun, captured her affections. Deanna was an avid and especially stylish skier who passed on her love for winter sports, adventure and travel to her children, who are eternally grateful. After moving to Toronto, Deanna's business acumen came to the fore. She worked and became very successful in the insurance, publishing, retail and dental fields. Her home was the central point of her gregarious and generous nature. Her house became the community gathering place for her children's friends and their many adventures. Deanna was never happier than when she was surrounded by people with a zest for life and laughter. Moving to Winnipeg many years ago seemed to further spark Deanna's artistic flair. She pursued painting and sculpture and in her late 40s she took up Tae Kwon Do. Deanna was a long-time volunteer at Misericordia Hospital bringing comfort and light to everyone she met. Deanna loved to travel, dream and think the best of others. She is now on her next journey to join her beloved husband Harvey who passed away recently. In her final earthly voyage she will be released to the wind and spirits of the Swiss Alps which she loved so much. Rest in eternal peace Mother, you will never be replaced nor forgotten in our hearts. The family would like to thank Dr. Battad and his team for their compassion and exemplary care, as well as all the staff of 5E at St. Boniface Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation are gratefully accepted. Cremation and a private family reception have taken place. I wish I had known Deanna in this lifetime! Her grandfather Jack was the brother of my late grandfather Sol Freedman. I happened across this obituary tonight while searching for some news of Jack's children. I wish Deanna's family peace in this time of great loss and the comfort that comes with loving memories. We are saddened to hear of Dea's passing. She and Harvey were such kind, thoughtful neighbours when we lived below them on Hugo. I always enjoyed going upstairs for a visit and sitting in their lovely home, admiring Dea's beautiful artwork on the walls. They were truly committed to one another, and I can only imagine how she missed Harvey. Now they are together again. Our deepest condolences to both of you Kyle and Dana. - Posted by: Deb and Vic Thordarson (Former neighbours) on: Apr 28, 2013
