Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIAN ROBERT SPENCER March 26, 1940 - May 1, 2013 It is with saddened hearts that we announce Ian's passing at the age of 73 years. Mourning Ian's loss are his wife, Kate; son Grant Spencer (Ilona); daughters Virginia Spencer (Oscar Matos), Verity Thompson (Marcus); stepchildren Paul Durrant and Karen Spence (Brian); six grandchildren; and many friends; colleagues and distant relatives. Born in Birmingham, England in 1940, Ian was a gentleman of conviction who truly loved life. He was also a dedicated and supportive father and husband who always acted with integrity and grace throughout many challenging times. Ian was a student at Warwick School and later completed his Architectural Degree at Birmingham University in England. He then moved to Canada to start his career which stretched over 30 years and concluded as a project manager at the Architectural and Structural Section of RCAF, A4CE, INFR6. Ian was also a faithful member of Toast Masters International, Club Venio Dictum. He was passionate about speaking and would always talk about past and current affairs with fervor. A Celebration of Ian's Life reception will be held on Friday, May 17, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in Baileys Restaurant, 185 Lombard Ave, Winnipeg. The family would like to thank the staff at Grace Hospital ICU for their care as Ian courageously battled repeated bouts of health and heart issues. I am very sorry to hear this, a sudden, sad news of Ian's passing away. I had an opportunity to work with Ian for a short time in Ottawa. He was a truly remarkable person, putting others first and helping others as required. I was shocked to hear about this and he will be missed. Ian has been a good friend and help to the Executive of our club. Always active and knowledgeable about history and procedures. He has been President on several occasions and deeply respected and relied upon by all our membership.
