Born: Nov 03, 1950
Date of Passing: Apr 30, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJUDY REMPEL CURTO After an 18 year battle with breast cancer, Judith Rempel Curto passed away on April 30, 2013. Judy leaves behind her beloved husband, Mark Curto, brother Don Rempel and partner Catherine, sister Diane and husband Don Brilz, niece Alyssa Rempel and nephew Ryan Brilz, along with Mark's brothers Steve, Gary and Chris and their families. Judy was born in Winnipeg, MB, Canada on November 3, 1950. She spent her early years in the Elmwood area followed by four years in San Jose, California. On return to Winnipeg, Judy attended high school at MBCI where she excelled in academics, sports and music. Upon graduation, Judy attended the University of Manitoba where she graduated with a BA Honors in English. It was during this time her talent in harmony singing led her into singing backup vocals and jingles for Century 21 Studios. It was here that she met her lifelong partner, Mark. They shared their love of music and adventure and when Mark returned to his native home in Indianapolis, Judy did not last long and followed him to Indiana. They married on December 31, 1976. Skydiving was a big part of their lives and wanting a warmer climate they travelled to Zephyr Hills, FL, thus beginning a 36 year life in Florida. After realizing that picking oranges and living in a camper truck was not for her, Judy began a lengthy and successful career at Xerox Corp. Judy worked her way up from dispatcher to become a Senior Customer Care Manager for Xerox's South East Region, earning many awards along the way. Her work ethic was an example to many. During this time, Judy and Mark developed a shared love of scuba diving and travelled to many exotic locations. Judy always did everything to the very best of her ability and she became an excellent underwater photographer. In addition, Judy always had a passion for glass and created many beautiful stained glass pieces for herself and family. They will be treasured forever. Judy was an inspiration to many in her battle with cancer, never complaining and treating her chemotherapy sessions like a trip to the grocery store. Her oncologist felt that Judy always managed her own care with his input and marvelled at her strength of character during this long battle with cancer. Judy's wishes were for a modest celebration of her life, followed by a cremation and scattering of her ashes with half going for a final dive at her favourite site off West Palm Beach and the other half joining her mother, brother and ancestors at the La Salle Cemetery in La Salle, MB. Judy had a loving and caring nature combined with an integrity and dedication to excellence in everything she pursued. She will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, send donations to the American or Canadian Cancer Society.

Judy and I lived on the same street as children and teens. We were the best of friends. I was always envious of her intelligence, her poise, and her ability to accept everyone without judgement. I loved Judy as a dear friend who listened to me, who shared the time, music, and stories, and above all, as a friend who showed me how to accept whatever life brings with great equanimity. Judy made me a better person for knowing her. - Posted by: Irene Schmidt (friend forever) on: Jun 06, 2013

In the mid 1970's, for a few years, Judy worked at the bookstore I managed. She left a lasting impression on me, and I've never forgotten her personality and love of life. Very sorry to learn of her passing. Sincerest sympathy to the family. David Judge - Posted by: David Judge (Fellow worker) on: May 04, 2013

I was saddened to learn about Judy's passing. She was very brave in facing her illness. I will remember things from childhood about her. I lived out on the farm for most of my childhood and Judy came out there to spend a holiday with me. Loved my cat, in fact I have a picture of her cuddling it. Later, she helped me integrate into her high school when I moved to Winnipeg. We sang in the same choirs and sometimes we babysat together. It was hilarious when we overdid making our festive eggnog and taking it to the home we were babysitting in. Can't drink it without remembering her! It was also the best to visit with her and Mark in their FL home and I will treasure that visit greatly. Love to brother Don and sister Dianne, niece Alyssa and of course to Mark her soulmate. We will miss Judy. We always seemed to meet in the yard and talk and never got to have our cookout that we scheduled several times but something always came up. We love you and will miss you. - Posted by: Tena and Bruce Randecker (Neighbor) on: May 03, 2013
