DOREEN GIBSON 1921 - 2013 Doreen, 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 23 at St. Therese Villa embraced in the love of her family and care givers. Her sweet soul has finally been released from her earthly body devastated by Parkinson's and Dementia to be reunited with her sweetheart Elwood who predeceased her in November, 2000. Doreen was the oldest of eight children born to Laura and Gordon Ross of Emerson, MB. Doreen was predeceased by three brothers, Colin, John and Pat, by two sisters, Georgie and Doris, and her sister-in-law Pearl. Doreen is survived by her sister Gladys (Ellery) Post of Calgary, brother Jim of Winnipeg, sister-in-law Lillian Gibson of Emerson and many nieces and nephews across Canada. Doreen is also survived by her son Dwight (Eileen) Gibson and children Kyla (Floris) and their children Violet and Arie, Jill (Dave) and Jeff (Tristen), Amanda (Tad) and their children Maya and Brooklyn, Kevin (Chandra) and their children Jacob and Owen, of Winnipeg; her daughter Sue (Bruce) Milne and children Laura (Shawn) of Calgary and David (Katja) of Lethbridge. Doreen loved her children but was absolutely in love with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Doreen and Elwood loved to play bridge, golf, camp, dance, curl, travel, attend family gatherings and visit friends. But Doreen's devotion to her grandchildren trumped them all! Doreen knit fabulous character sweaters, sewed comfy jammies and Halloween costumes, baked delicious ginger snaps, hosted sleepovers, made countless trips to McDonald's, served perfectly peeled and sliced apples at bedtime and attended endless sporting events, concerts, gymnastics competitions and graduations. She was thrilled to attend Kyla and Floris' wedding. Recently, her physical health prevented her from travelling and participating in all of her beloved activities but she was content to enjoy a meal and visit. "I just want to be with you." We were blessed with her love and guided by her pragmatism. We celebrated her life on Friday, April 26 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Augustine's Anglican Church, Lethbridge. A Memorial Service in Winnipeg will follow at a later date. PLEASE donate to Parkinson's Society of Southern Alberta, 1254 3 Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta.

  • I remember when Aunt Doreen and Uncle Elwood came to visit us in Ottawa - we had a great time taking them around. I also remember going out to the farm near Emerson and having a great big bonfire. Sorry for your loss.
