ROBERT CLARENCE MONDY December 22, 1941 - May 1, 2013 Bob passed away on Wednesday, May 1 at the Asper Cardiac Centre of St. Boniface Hospital after a lengthy battle with the complications of both Heart Disease and Cancer. Bob was predeceased by his father and mother, Clarence and Olga Mondy of Guelph, Ontario and his older sister Marlene of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Left to celebrate Bob's life and accomplishments are his loving partner Holly Toupin, his daughter Kelly (John), son Kevin (Deborah), first wife Janet Mondy and stepsons Brendan (Michelle) and Justin. Bob was born in Guelph, Ontario and lived there into his 30's. His career took him from Guelph to Vancouver, Winnipeg and Calgary. His easy going manner and willingness to help or lead many community and work activities garnered a multitude of friendships in all of these communities. In the 1980s, Bob partnered with Ken Sexton to add a new division, Sexton Group, to the KenRoc family of companies. Needless to say, Bob's hard work and salesmanship led to a very successful Building Materials buying group at Sexton. Prior to Sexton, Bob worked for Qualico Homes, Beaver Lumber and Bucyrus Erie. He was very proud of his industry and appreciated his election as Western Lumberman of the Year in 1995 and subsequent Honorary life membership upon his retirement in 2010. Bob was well known as a longtime member of the Winnipeg West Rotary Club. In addition to his many years of perfect weekly attendance, he was a multiple Paul Harris fellow recognizing his personal support of local and International Rotary programs. He was always the leading seller of Trip-of-the-Month tickets and Chicken Fest meals. The Chicken Fest program has been renamed in his honour. Bob and Sexton Group have and continue to be supportive of many groups and charities including Bob's initiation of the ICD support program for Manitobans with pacemakers, defribrillators and VADs (ventricular assist devices). He also served on the Board of the Heart Links support group for those with or awaiting heart transplants. Among other worthy causes were Grace Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, Osborne House, Siloam Mission and the Winnipeg Inner City Missions - Anishinabe and Flora House. Bob was an avid sports fan who supported all of Winnipeg's sports teams as a season ticket subscriber. He was a member of Glendale Golf Club and a valued key supporter of the club's own fundraising tournament and dinner, The Great Glendale Open. Bob was a faithful supporter and contributor to church life at Westwood Presbyterian Church. Capitalizing on his building and construction expertise, he helped significantly in the most recent church expansion adding a multi-purpose room, additional Sunday school and sanctuary space. He thanks Reverends Peter Bush and Ian Shaw for their support and guidance. We will all miss Bob dearly, never more so than the anniversaries of his not-to-be-missed summer garden parties and Christmas open house. Thanks go from Bob and his loved ones to the many people who have supported him since the installation of his LVAD in fall 2009. Special thanks go out to his caregiver team Naomi, Cherie, Allison and Krissy. Bob was also very close to the Cardiac service's team of nurses, doctors, perfusionist and clinicians at St. Boniface. Thanks and love go to them all with a special thank you to Dr. Darren Freed, Dr. Shelley Zieroth and his case co-ordinator Sherri Barker. In lieu of flowers, Bob would like you to support the St. Boniface Hospital Heart Research Foundation, the Winnipeg West Rotary Club Foundation or a charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Bob's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2013 at Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Drive, Winnipeg, with a reception to follow. We all enjoyed taking care of him on CR4 and listening to his many stories and past experiences he had to share.
