ERNEST JAMES (UNCLE BUD) WRIGHT It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Ernie Wright on April 29, 2013. He is survived by his beloved daughter Tammy, brothers Alex (Patsy) and Jim Grant, sisters Marie and June Grant, longtime companion Marie Sicotte, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ernie was predeceased by his mother, Anne and his wife Christina Wright. Ernie was born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia on June 13, 1930. At the age of 18, Ernie came to Winnipeg where he resided until his passing. He served his apprenticeship in the painting and decorating trade, achieving his Journeyman Painter and Paperhanger Designation in 1953. Ernie had a long career which included operating his own business, Dart Décor, and developed many relationships with fellow tradesman over his career. In Winnipeg, Ernie met Glen Frain and travelled assisting him with his band, The Bucharoos. In Fork River, Ernie met Glen's sister-in-law Christina Stashko, and they were married in 1953. On April 13, 1966, his own daughter Tammy was born. Tammy was the love of his life. He always called her "his little girl". Tragically, in December 1987, Tammy was involved in an automobile accident that changed their lives forever. Ernie devoted the rest of his life to looking after Tammy along with Christina until her passing, and later with Marie. Ernie enjoyed socializing with friends and had many pastimes including bowling, curling, darts, card games and the horse races. Ernie bravely battled his health challenges in recent years and continued to care for Tammy as long as he was able. Ernie will truly be missed by his family and many friends and neighbours, all who were a huge help to Ernie and Tammy over the years. Thanks to the medical team at the St. Boniface Hospital for the kind and respectful care extended to Ernie during this time there. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your charity of choice.
