REGINALD JOHN MONK Our hearts heavy with sorrow, we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Reginald John Monk, aged 71 years of Camper, MB, on May 6, 2013 at the Lakeshore General Hospital with his loving family by his side. Dad is survived by his loving wife Darlene. Dad will live on through his children Raynard (Melinda), Charmaine (Lorne), Roxanne (Owen), Amber and Gregory. Grandpa will always be remembered by his grandchildren Brittany and Noah, Dakota, Emily, Nickolas and Nicole, and Samantha, Ashley and Nathan. He was predeceased by his parents John and Molly Monk, his sister Helen, brothers-in-law Emil Gutknecht, Ed Zuchotzki, Sam Noordenbos, Alvin Kufus and Wilf Schmidt, sister-in- law Bernice Monk, father and mother- in-law William and Barbara Smith. Dad was born on February 25, 1942 in Eriksdale, MB and was raised on the Monk family farm along with his eight siblings. In addition to farming, he attended Red River College and received his journeyman in Heavy Duty Mechanics. As well, he also worked for Arne Lechelt's garage in Ashern and Manitoba Hydro. In 1972 Dad purchased the farm from Uncle Jack and Aunty Kay Erhart. Dad started courting Mom in 1977, later getting married on November 18, 1978 which went on record as the coldest day in Manitoba and still holds to this day. They worked hard to establish our family farm where they built a house and raised their five children. Dad's passion was his cows. He swore he'd take care of them until the day he died and he did. Once the grandchildren began to arrive in our family, they also became his passion. He had a special closeness with his grandchildren and was filled with pride and a love for each and every one of them. Dad is the most resourceful, strongest, hardest working man we know. He taught us all to drive tractors and vehicles and was even able to teach Mom how to drive a standard. Not to mention, he taught us all many life lessons. He was so proud of all of his children and their accomplishments. Dad also had a great sense of humour and would tell jokes wherever he went. In his younger days, Dad also played baseball with the Interlake Jets and Camper Flyers. He loved to play cards and watch hockey, baseball and curling. He especially enjoyed teaching and playing baseball with his children and grandchildren in the front yard. Dad loved to hunt birds and big game for many years and was very thankful to his kids and grandkids for introducing him to a new found hobby in fishing. Dad could also be found travelling to various auction sales all over the province. He was an avid community leader involved in various Camper events including the picnics, Country Music Festivals and Christmas concerts. He was a member of the Picnic Ridge 4-H Club, Camper Community Hall for over 40 years, Camper New Horizons and most recently volunteering in the Thresherman's Reunion. He also held positions in the Community Pasture Program of the PFRA and Interlake Cattlemen's Cooperative. A viewing for family and friends will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Arnason Funeral Home between 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Our family invites you to join us in a Celebration of Dad's life to be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2013 at the Camper Community Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. We would like to thank Dr. Samy, the nurses and staff of Lakeshore General Hospital who provided exceptional compassionate care to Dad and our family, Dr. Johnston, Erin and Jane of CancerCare Manitoba, Helen Webster and to John, Karen and staff of Arnason Funeral Home for their guidance and support to our family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc., 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or to the Lakeshore Hospital Guild, Palliative Care Unit, c/o Julie Bergner, PO Box 721, Ashern, MB R0C 0E0. • Hard to believe you would have been 82 today. It wasn’t all that long ago we were all just Monk kids running around the yard. Our juvenile years went by so quickly. We will all be together one day and we can do that again. Till then, Happy Heavenly Birthday. 💔💔 - Posted by: Carole Monk Christiansen (Sister #5) on: Feb 25, 2024

  • So much has taken place since I last posted something for you Reg. Christmas Day 2020 I lost “My Lloyd” and by now your paths must have crossed. It is very difficult to face each day alone without Lloyd. There is lots of family with you where you are. I am working on making the best of the life I have left. Last summer was extremely dry and this summer is extremely wet, but everyone is managing to survive. Till we meet again, your sister Carole. 💔💔💕❤️♥️💗 - Posted by: Carole Monk Christiansen (Sister born next after you.) on: Aug 20, 2022

  • Thinking of you as you recently had a birthday. We are having a very Cold, Long winter. There isn't much to say, as you are with the angels, and I am here on earth freezing this winter. Hope it is warm for you where you are. Will never forget you Reg. - Posted by: Carole Christiansen (sister) on: Mar 04, 2019

  • Thinking of you today Reg. Knowing that you would be in the hayfield doing what you liked to do. It isn't hard to remember the years when we were all kids and we would all be there trying to help. You worked hard and provided well for your family. Until we meet again, I will always be thinking of you. Hugs and I Love You. - Posted by: Carole Monk Christiansen (Sister) on: Jul 18, 2017

  • The hospitality Reg showed and his pancakes will be long remembered. I remember growing up on our family farm which Reg eventually purchased. The great fresh cream from the Monk farm and the old country dances we all attended bring back a lot of fond memories. Our condolences to Darlene, Raynard, Charmaine, Roxanne, Amber and Gregory and their families and to his siblings. - Posted by: Diane (nee Erhart) and Ron Mang (Cousin) on: May 10, 2013
