Date of Passing: May 09, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE EDGAR (ED) HOHS Suddenly on May 9, 2013 at the Grace Hospital, Ed passed away due to pneumonia, just days shy of his 92nd birthday. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Ada of 53 years, children Robert (Helen) Patrick, Jean Bodner, Robyn (Don) Hoffart, and his son and daughter from his first marriage, David (Jill) Hohs, Linda (John) Petroff, his sister Marion McIntyre, sister-in-law Vera Hohs, grand-children Rob, Beth, Jennifer, Tom, Terry, Jeff, Jason, Derek and Becky, great-grandchildren Josh, Brittany, Seth, Graeme, Evan, Georgia, and his close friend Richard (Merle) Bloom. He was predeceased by his son George, his father Herbert "Victor" Hohs, Mother Bertha "Edna" Brown, brothers Chuck and Bert and sister Dodie. Ed was born May 13, 1921 and raised in Ontario. His first marriage blessed him with a son David and daughter Linda. After his divorce, he met Ada, a widow with four children. Their love was that strong that he married Ada in 1960 and took on the awesome responsibility of caring for her and a ready made family. They settled in Winnipeg where he remained until his death. Dad worked at Greater Winnipeg Gas, London Life and Prudential Life, Royal Trust Realty, and M.P.I.C. Dad's love over the years included their cottage at Star Lake where many memories were made. He was the horseshoe King of Star Lake. It broke his heart when age caught up to him and the cottage was sold several years ago. His first love was always Ada and his family. He was a proud member of the Charleswood-Red River Masonic Lodge #183, Friendship Chapter #67 Order of the Eastern Star where he made many lasting friendships, and the Army Navy Air Force Veterans #283, where he could always be found at breakfast Saturday morning. He will be remembered by all for his "corney" sense of humour and fun-loving personality. Ed served in the R.C.A.F. in the Second World War from 1942 to 1945 both in Canada and Overseas and was proud of his service and Veteran status. In respect of Ed's final wishes, cremation has taken place and a small family service will be held at Chapel Lawn in Winnipeg to inter his ashes. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. "The greatest gift a Man can give his Children is to love their Mother" Rest in Peace. You will forever be missed by your family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Army Navy Air Force Veterans #283, at 3584 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3K 0Z8 in his memory.
