MARY YAKIELASHEK Suddenly on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 Mary Helen Yakielashek of Dauphin passed away. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her son Phil (Nancy) Yakielashek of Swan River, MB; grandsons Todd (Sherry) of Port McNeill, BC and Brett (Terri-Lynn) of Swan River, MB; brother Martin (Nadean) Bobinski of Red Lake, ON; brothers-in-law Syl (Hazel) Yakielashek of Brandon, MB, Michael (Debbie) Yakielashek of Castor, AB; sisters-in-law Nettie Yakielashek of Winnipeg and Phyllis Yakielashek of Dauphin and close extended family. She will also be greatly missed by her neighbour ladies, her exercise group, the Narcisse ladies and the C.W.L. members. Mary was born May 3, 1937 in Winnipegosis, MB, the first child of John and Rose Bobinski. Mary's love of books lead her to enroll in Teachers College in Winnipeg and upon graduation was hired at Fishing River School where she drove a horse and wagon and picked up her students on the way. During this time she met the love of her life, Henry Yakielashek. After they were married, they moved to Sifton where Mary taught Grades 1 to 3, Henry was a rider for the P.F.R.A. Community Pasture at Ukraina and their only child Phil was born. In 1967 Henry got the job as Community Pasture Manager in Narcisse, MB. Mary was the substitute teacher in Inwood School and bookkeeper for Community Pasture business. They enjoyed many wonderful years in Narcisse where Mary became involved with the Women's Institute. After 25 years of hard work, good times and good friends in the Interlake, Henry and Mary retired to Dauphin where they enjoyed visiting friends and relatives and always lending a helping hand. Mary was a good listener, a reliable babysitter and a caring friend to many. Retirement left them more time to spend with their precious grandsons Todd and Brett. Mary was very devoted to her church and to her community. She served on the C.W.L. for many years and was a life member of the W.I. Friends and family will miss her laughter, her stories and of course her delicious meals. No one left Henry and Mary's hungry or thirsty! Cremation has taken place and funeral mass will be held in her honour Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at St. Viator's Roman Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Dauphin Riverside Cemetery followed by lunch' at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Mary & I became closer friends when she was in High School in Winnipegosis, MB. In fact we studied for Exams together as she found repetition together was helpful in memorizing Math equations! But we had a lot of 'giggles' too! Upon completing our Gr 12 studies, four of the girls from Winnipegosis High School continued on to Teacher's College in the fall- our friendship, fun and comraderie continued on. We all shared one large room together- Mary tried to keep us in serious study during 'study hour' after dinner! All of the girls moved on to their assigned school- I did attend her wedding in Winnipegosis and then lost track of her as I moved on to Calgary. We did re-unite once again at a Home-Coming event in Winnipegosis and reminisced about our earlier 'good times' and I never saw her again. She was a special girl who was studious, dependable, but balanced her life with devotion, fun and entertainment. It was a shocker to learn that she is now deceased- may the Lord bless her and her family. - Posted by: Marg Holmes CALGARY, AB.(Syrnyk) (High School in Winnipegosis and Teacher's College friend) on: May 24, 2013

  • It was wonderful meeting and talking with Mary at the wedding of her niece, Rhonda Bobinski, and her husband, Brad Beckman, in Quibell, Ontario. She laughed so hard at the jokes which were going around the table at the wedding party. Who could have known it would be her last autumn? Condolences to all of the family. - Posted by: Jay Richthammer (Friend) on: May 14, 2013
