MARJORIE MCARTON STEWART (nee MCKNIGHT) Marjorie was born in Winnipeg, the daughter of Maud Pritchard McKnight and Andrew McKnight. She attended schools in Winnipeg's West End and immediately from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate, joined her father in starting the family business, Lion Storage Company. They worked hand in hand until Marjorie married Harry McArton in 1942. Harry and Marjorie spent the war years together in Vancouver and after the war lived in the home they built together in Middlechurch on the Red River. When the children began arriving, they moved to Elm Park Road in St.Vital. Harry died in 1969 at age 48. Marjorie married Doug Stewart in 1978. She moved to his home on Fulham Avenue where she resided until moving to Extendicare Tuxedo Villa. She was a member of the Khartum Ladies Auxiliary and Daughters of the Nile (50 Years). She was very active with St. Mark's Anglican Church working on many fundraising projects. She also helped her mother with her teas for St. Paul's Anglican Church in Middlechurch, a church that has great historic meaning and deep roots for her family. Marjorie is survived by her daughter Bonnie McDonald (Perry), son Barry McArton (Carol), stepdaughter Joan Stewart Jones, grandchildren Laurel Gaspar (Paul), Grant McDonald, Kiersten McDonald, Ian McArton (Stephanie) and Sydney McArton (Graham). She is also survived by her sister Myrtle Young and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Marjorie was predeceased by her first husband Harry, her father Andrew, her brother Merv, her mother Maud, her second husband Doug, and her grandson Garreth. The Family is grateful for the care and respect Marjorie received from her home care workers and the Extendicare Tuxedo Villa staff. A celebration of Marjorie's life will be held at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway on Friday, May 17 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Middlechurch. AFTERGLOW I'd like the memory of me To be a happy one. I'd like to leave an afterglow Of smiles when life is done. I'd like to leave an echo Whispering softly down the ways, Of happy times and laughing times And bright sunny days. I'd like the tears of those who grieve, To dry before the sun, Of happy memories that I leave. When life is done. My sympathy to Bonnie, Barrie & Joan on your Mom's passing. While I didn't really get to see much of your Mom until 2002, when we stayed with her, prior to my sister's graduation at U of M, I always remember my Mother's stories about all of the fun they had together, while growing up. Marjorie was always my Mom's favorite cousin & after our stay at her house in 2002, I could really see why Mom loved her so much. She was so good natured, in spite of the damage which my aunts, Dahhne & Sandra managed to inflict on her house!! And she sure impressed me, with her knowledge, not only of the Blue Bombers, but CFL football in general. She was definitely "a keeper"!!!!!!! Again, my condolences. Sincerely, Jody Hunter. - Posted by: Jody Hunter (Betty & Gorde Hunter's daughter) on: May 21, 2013
