RENE JOSEPH HERMARY It is with great sadness that we announce the passing, after a lengthy illness, of our partner, father, brother, uncle and friend Rene Hermary on Wednesday, May 1, 2013. Rene was born in Winnipeg on July 4, 1949 and lived here until 1986 before moving to the west coast, where he met Marcel and lived until his passing. Rene leaves to mourn his passing, his spouse, life partner and best friend of 28 years, Marcel Godin of Richmond, BC; his daughters Leanne, Tara, Sandy and Sindy; 12 grandchildren; three brothers, four sisters and their families, his in-laws and numerous friends and family. Rene was predeceased by his parents Albert in 1979 and Alexina in 1990; his brother Bob in 1996; nephews Bobby Jr. in 1981 and Toby Tyler in 1991, and his sister-in-law Micheline in 2012. Rene was an exceptional hairdresser with loyal clientele. Due to deteriorating health, Rene retired from the business on July 5, 2009. He had a great love for all living things, especially his "babies" - his pets. Rene touched many lives and was loved by all. The family is planning a celebration of Rene's life in July or August. Please contact mhermary@mymts.net if you wish to be included in this celebration. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rene's memory may be made to a charity of your choice. "Soar like an eagle, fly like a dove, as you watch over us, remember our love."

Condolences & Memories (9 entries)

  • Rene took me under his wing when I was a young man in Vancouver. He helped me sort myself out and attain an apprenticeship in hairdressing. He was always helping me out it seems with one thing or another. We lost touch as time went on and I just found out about his passing yesterday. I will always cherish his friendship and love and know we will see each other again. Marcel, I didn't know you but I do know how fortunate you were to have Rene in your life. May you rest easy knowing we all send our love to you in this difficult time. - Posted by: Zsaire Gable (born Sherwood Rock) (Long time friend...) on: Nov 08, 2013

  • I'll miss you and the laughs we had. Sharing movies and how we liked them or not. I have wonderful memories in my heart and on my camera of the boat cruise down the Fraser river that you won and kindly invited me to share with you and Marcel. The many talks we had exchanging knowledge and wisdom Talking about different books over a cup of tea and a piece of cake that Marcel had baked. I'll think of you when I visit a Casino and remember the time the three of us went out for brunch in the casino. Many good times we shared. I know you are just a thought away and I'm so glad you are at peace now. I know you are missed very much. Until we meet again one day, I love you. • We would like to offer our condolences to Marcel and Rene's family. He was a good friend of my sister Olivia's back on Stephens St. days. But we do remember his wonderful sense of humor and smile. I am sure Rene and Olivia are in heaven catching up on lost time. • Rene had that inner ability to make a difference in people's life. He used humor and/or said it as it was for the most part whether we appreciated it or not- but it helped many to move forward in the process of their life From the moment that Rene walked in my life, his love for me and his ability to bring out the best in me changed me profoundly. One may say that he saved me from a challenging & turbulent time in my life. Our time together, even though it addressed all aspect, only brought us closer and our love grew deeper until death do us part on the physical but not in the spirit- we are one forevermore. - Posted by: Marcel Godin (Husband) on: May 21, 2013

  • Dear, sweet, Rene, I am so glad you are finally at peace and free from pain. But my heart is broken. You were always so kind and loving, never judging. I have so many wonderful memories of you, from my first "shag" to having Christmas dinner at your beautifully set table. Big bear hugs and laughter until I cried and couldn't catch my breath. You will forever be a shining star. To Marcel, your partner, I am so sorry for your loss. Just know Rene will never be forgotten and always loved. xoxo - Posted by: Katherine Hermary (ex sister-in-law) on: May 18, 2013
